  • E-string goes flat

    Hey guys!

I am looking for clues how to fix the high E string on my 1990 Soloist Pro from going flat. This seems to happen only after a normal (2 semitones) bend above the 12th fret. I replaced the worn-out nut with a new Schaeller, but this didn't solve the problem. I also replaced the little cubes holding the strings in place. The bridge is original.

    Thanks in advance!

Try swapping the saddle with the low E one. It may be grooved and not holding the string tightly. Or the nut string pressure pad could be worn.

You need to figure out whether it's the nut or the bridge at fault. To do this, pick the high E between the nut and the tuner, and listen to the high pitched ping you get. Bend the string, make it go flat and ping it again. If it's gone sharp between nut and tuner, then it's slipping at the nut, if not it's the bridge.
