  • Floyd Rose Revalations

OK, so I was playing all my guitars the other day, back to back, and I noticed that I prefered the warmer sound of my Schaller JT590's and my Gotoh's better than my OFR.

The Schaller's and Gotoh's just cut through the mix better. They took away some of the brightness but still retained more meat. The OFR even has a Big Block upgrade and while the BB enhanced the sound of that guitar tremendously, the brightness of that guitar just washed it out when played with the band. It's no wonder I kept changing the pickups and caps on it trying to find the right combination. I really need to replace the OFR.

No wonder Jackson uses the Schaller instead as its go to locking tremolo. Now i'm even more thankful that Sully put a Schaller on my Sullystar. Thanks Dude!

Jackson doesn't use the Schaller on anything, it's all OFR's.

Jackson used to use the JT590/Schaller at one time then switched to the OFR. You can still get a Schaller on a Custom Shop order.

The thing I didn't like about the Schaller was that over time four of the saddles came loose due to the intonation set screw threads stripping in the baseplate. I have no idea how that happened as I never put a wrench to them myself and only had it set up two, maybe three times in over 15 years. So...no more Schallers for me.

That was on older Schallers. Schaller has fixed that problem.

My 92 RR1 has a Schaller and my 1995 RR1 has an OFR, so the change was in that time frame.

Sure, but he was saying their "go-to" tremolo, which for USA production, it is not.

Hey what did they do to the new Schallers to fix the base plate?

I think they use different screws now or inserts. I can't recall offhand, but I remember something about them being different.

I`ve heard of many people nowadays that once they got a schaller, they never looked back (to the OFR)..
