  • Repainting and PC1'izing an SL-1

    Hi everyone,

I'm thinking about installing a sustainiac in an SL-1. I have no experience doing so. I definitely plan on having the guitar repainted. Would it be better to hand off the guitar to expert to install the sustainiac first, then send the completed guitar off to be repainted? What would be the best order of operations to ensure everything goes smoothly?

The Sustainiac isn't as good as the sustainer in the PC model from what I understand.

Wouldn't you be better just selling the SL1, and buying a PC1 in the colour you like?

If you're goign to install a sustainer, get a Fernandez FSK-401 kit and have a pro do the installation.
The routing should be done before the paint job of course and yes... routing and drilling will be required.

Just don't try converting it from neckthru to bolt on!

Oh there have been times when I've thought to myself that an "accidental" fall from a high place would turn my soloist into a perfectly salvageable dinky.

I just happen to like the Soloist and Dinky more than the PC1. I'm afraid getting a PC1 the way I would like it would still necessitate either a custom shop order or a custom paint job after the fact. So you guys like Fernandez and Jackson's own sustainer over the Sustainiac? That's something for me to remember.
          Thanks.

Incidentally, is Mike Learn still a favorite for refinishing that doesn't take forever?
