  • D-Tuna advice needed badly

I am hearing that maybe I cannot use the D-tuna on my Jackson guitars. I have three guitars that I was really hoping to use these on. All the guitars will also have Gold Backbox trem stabilizers installed so they will not be pulled up at all. So I have a 1996 DR3 professional with a 580LP that I am going to change over to an original Floyd and add a brass block too. A 1992 Dinky Std professional with a JT590, and a JDR94 with the JT500. I haven't bought the D-tunas yet. I am having all of these professionally done.

Of those guitars, my understanding is that the D-Tuna will only fit on the one that you are putting the OFR on. I don't think it will work with the short, fat locking screws that the Jt_590 and JT-500 have. See the first item here:

I do think the 500 and 590 have the fine tuners directly on the locking screws so I think it may work. The concern I have been told is that the Dtuna may hit the wood on these guitars and could damage the finish. I really do not even want to buy the OFR if I will not be able to use the Dtuna as I am quite happy with how the 580LP has performed for me.

My main goal here is to have 3 guitars that cover six tunings so I can minimize the amount of equipment I have to move around to practices, gigs etc etc. Currently I have 10 electric guitars and I am wanting to consolidate. 4 of them are uber cheap ones(Dean Vendettas(2) Fender squier(2008) and a India made JS1 and I am thinking about turning one of these into an Ace Frehley type of smoker, and their are 2 jackson imports I am going to try to sell being a dxmg, and a RR3. Really we do someones keg party or something similar maybe 2 or 3 times a year and we are just about the level of an average bar band. Almost. This is way to much work lugging all of this stuff around to practices every other week. Then after I consolidate I am going to try to trade up into something American made.

Now one of my Blue Voodoo heads just quit last night so I am going to have to have that fixed. It started picking up this crazy Anti _Obama radio station the last couple of nights. I was wondering if the secret service was going to show up as it was pretty radical. Then I tried to turn it on last night and all powers up but no sound. I did take it apart and checked everything I am capable of but to no avail.

I just dug around a little, and you're right that the D-Tuna will go on the short, fat screws. Here's one on a non-recessed Schaller:

It will definitely overhang the back of your trem rout like crazy. The question is, will it clear the surface? You'll be doing dive-only, so if it clears it won't matter. It'll just look a little funny.

If it doesn't clear the surface, on a bolt-on you can shim the neck to add angle and allow you to raise the trem. Otherwise, the rout could be modded. There's usually a way to get things done, but it boils down to whether you want the D-Tuna that bad.

Definitely do not want it bad enough to mod the route, or to shim the neck. If I can get it to fit on there with the OFR and be funcional I would be happy. I hope it wont look too funny LOL

Well I guess I am just going to have to get it and see. I just wont be too happy with myself if I buy the OFR and the Dtuna and they dont work.
