  • Apparently I'll never decide.. Pickups, again..

Still, and apparently will always be, thinking about pickups for the Soloist Pro (HSS). Now it's Dimarzios on the brain cause I don't have any and honestly don't think I've ever played any. Might try now. Any of you HSS players - What dimarzio's are you using? Pups I normally like are Duncan JB/Duckbucker/'59 so keeping with that type of sound but maybe a bit darker in the bridge like a Custom... Thanks.

I love to death Super Distortions for the bridge and the old PAFS in the neck.
I also just put an old PAF in the bridge of an Epiphone Les Paul and was blown away how good it sounds. I was worried it'd be a bit weedy, but it sounds awesome, WAAAY better than the SD 59 I had in there to start with.

Can't help on the singles, the only single sized pups I use are standard Fender or Duncan Hot and Cool Rails.

I like the Super Distortion too. I put one in one of my Charvels, great-sounding pickup.

I don't really like the JB though so, I don't know. On paper, the Tone Zone is a lot like the JB, but I don't think it sounds like one... Maybe that's why I like it, too. :dunno:

You're not a man until you're slamming power chords through a Super Distortion and sniffin' your armpit with your picking hand up in the air windmilling. Yeah, man! Super Distortions are totally groovy.

My SL1 I just got came with the Super Distortion bridge and a SDS-1 neck. The SDS-1 isn't working yet so don't know about that one but the SD is pretty fucking awesome so far. And all I did was slam some power chords and do some sniffin' as per the previous advice. Fuck yeah!! I'm a man now!!! (Sux that it took 37 years..but thanks GT..)

                warlok,

I have a DiMarzio Super Distortion in my Charvel guitar (HSS) that I bought back in 1990 or so. I think it's a great pickup. I've read that those Super Distortions made back then sound alittle different than the ones they make now a days (not sure f that's true). Anyway, in my Jackson Dinky Pro I have a SD George Lynch Screamin Demon that sounds better (that 80's metal sound). It might sound better due to the maple top basswood body. Not sure if you considered the Screamin Demon or not....

I have another Dinky Pro with stock pickups that I plan on changing...I thought of the SD JB, but now I'm leaning towards the Screamin Demon....

Any thoughts on a good neck pickup? I also have the HSS config.

Are the Pro or Fast Track Dimarzio's any good? I'm looking to swap out my Kent Armstrong pickups.

Dinkyguitar - The little '59 is my favorite neck pup as of now. I kinda wish they made a Jazz Jr. because from what I've used I like the '59 and the Jazz both. The '59 is a little bassier and slightly less trebly than the Jazz. I did also play some hotrails in a SL3 a while ago and I liked that as well. If I was to go the rails route, I'd probably go hotrails in the neck and coolrails in the bridge and whichever in the bridge (Custom maybe, or the Demon you like). All with a coil split because with my Model 6 (JB, Duckbucker, little '59), it is ridiculously versatile for anything I want to play.

I've got Hot Rails neck, Cool Rails middle in my SL3. It's got a JB in the bridge, but I'm sure a Super D would sound perfect too in that combination.

Oops, I meant coolrails in the middle.. Now that I have the Dimarzio's in the SL1, I may try a SD Distortion or Custom (I have a dist here now), coolrails, and hotrails in the Pro.
