Removing the V plate from a Rhoads

I'm wanting to take the V plate off my Rhoads to see the stencil pattern better, just one quick question - does the V plate protect the wood from the strings? If I take the plate off, will the strings start to dig into the wood?

yes they will damage the wood, you will have to install string ferrules

I'm curious to see how this looks after you do this. Are you doing this to an RR5?

Yeah, RR5. Eventually I'll do a custom pickguard painted like the stencil as well.

Not yet, I've been really busy at work, so I haven't even got the parts ordered yet.
