  • Volume Pot Problem

Hey guys, this is my first post here. I've been lurking for a bit, and I must say... Jackson makes stunning custom shop guitars. I love looking around for guitar porn on this site

Anyways, back in December I got a Jackson DK2M, and I love it to deth. It was previously owned twice, but still in great condition. I love the way it plays, and overall I knew that I would be amazed having a Jackson guitar. Originally the guitars were strung with size 9, so only yesterday I swapped them out for my preferred size 10 Elixirs. To be honest, I was intimidated by having to set up a Floyd Rose floating bridge. It really wasn't too bad though, I set up the guitar and it plays perfect now, the tone is a lot more rich with fresh strings, and the strings have my, and only my, finger gunk on them One thing that did strike me as odd though, was the fact that the previous owner kind of screwed up stringing the guitar. Where you place the string in at the bridge and tighten it (I'm not big on guitar hardware lingo) the string veered off to the side and was jammed in between the side of the block. When I loosened the blocks to pull out the old strings, the string that was jammed in the side didn't come out, and I had to remove the entire section of the tremolo (as if I were setting my intonation, but I took out the whole part of that string section) and had to poke it from underneath to un-jam the string. Now the tiny block that presses against the string to hold it has a groove in it, it's fine for now, but I may have to replace this. Does anyone know of any good sites with Jackson hardware parts?

Now onto the main part. My volume pot is loose, so every time I turn the knob, the volume pot underneath moves with it, including all of the wires. How do I secure the volume pot to the guitar? I hope I don't have to hold a soldering iron to my guitar. I can still adjust the volume, but I can "feel" the entire section underneath it moving, and it is somewhat unsettling, I'd hate to have it tear out a wire or something. So how would this be fixed?

Another thing while I'm making this long post. I sometimes like to attack my guitar strings and pick them with authority but I also like low action. When I play aggressively I get a lot of fret buzz, but I don't want to compromise this with high action. Is there anything I can do to eliminate this fret buzz from aggressive picking, or is it just inevitable?

Thanks so much you guys, and sorry for this long post.

Take off the knob and tighten the nut that secures the volume pot.

The part you are looking to replace is called a "lock block", and yours are interchangeable with Original Floyd parts.

Wow, that was a quick fix. Thanks so much! I really can't believe I didn't think of that, it really felt like something wasn't secure inside the guitar.

Also, thank you Axe, the correct terminology will really help when finding replacement parts.
