    Do you mean the ones to raise and lower the pickups or the actual ones on the pickup itself?

          Seriously? I honestly never knew that and I have had humbuckers for at least a decade. I guess I always assumed that they served some sort of a purpose in the production process.

              A good way to start tweaking is try matching the radius of the strings
              to the polepieces.
              Then adjust to taste.

              Don't screw them out too far!

                Some people like to adjust the tone by raising the poles instead of raising the actual pickup.
                I feel my soul go cold... only the dead are smiling.

                  It adjusts the output on a per-string basis... as opposed to half the strings at a time by adjusting the height of the pickup itself... pickups like the SD full shred and DiMarzio Fred/PafPro with all 12 adjustable pole pieces are great, you can really dial in your tone to exactly the way you like it, plus mini Hex bolts are alot easier to adjust than the standard Flat-head screw...
