  • Gotoh humbuckers anyone?

Going through all my guitars to label them as to what pickups are in each one, I finally got to my Trans Black JacksonStars NASL with the stock JacksonStars neck pickup. Turns out it's a Gotoh (stamped into the baseplate) with a sticker that says J 50 N and I think the DC resistance (forget now what it said - 10.8K I think).

Anyhoo, this is a great sounding pickup!

Are Gotoh generally known for quality pickups? I know they're a pretty big name in aftermarket guitar parts, but don't think I've ever heard anything about their pickups.

No idea, but I have one from a Caparison (black label on back). Got it used through a trade somehow. I haven't tried it out yet. I guess if they are OEM for Caparison, that's a good thing?

They used to be in the NJ riches, iirc (could be Schaller, tho), but yeah, I've heard that they're decent pickups.

Looking around on Ebay I see some kind of Gotoh EVH pickup.

Has Gotoh got their won site? As good as their parts are (the trems are fucking amazing), the company is shrouded in mystery

I once stumbled upon a catalogue site, but it didn't seem to offer much info.

I had them in my '84 NJ Bich with full mockingbird electonics. I hated them both. It's been so long I couldn't say what the problem was. Just to give an idea where my tastes fall: For me a Super D. and an Air Norton was the answer. My KE2 has an Evo 2 and Evolution neck and that has become my favorite so far. I changed out the Gotohs when I was using a Carvin X60 and the evos went in the kelly after I got the Legacy II. Of course Gotoh may have made better sounding pickups than those included in my Bich.
