  • Removing Varnish on back of Maple Neck

I picked up a project guitar that I needed to refinished. After reading several posts on JCF I decided to sand off the varnish on the back of a Maple neck / Rosewood fretboard. It came off nicely after about an hour of sanding and some elbow grease. I picked up some Tung Oil and have put two coats on it. It feels really smooth and nice.

I am looking for some guidance on following:
1 - How many coats of the Tung Oil should I put on?
2 - Now that I have removed the Varnish, is there any maintenance that I should do periodically to keep the neck from shifting or cracking?

Thanks in advance for your advice
