Try the Diezel VH4 as well. The head sounds fantastic for hi-def modern metal, and it records less compressed than a Recto which is a plus for me. I'm not a big fan of Diezel cabs, the ones I've tried had a strange resonant peak which made the cabinet sound really boomy.

will an engl be able to deliver that punch and tightness?
I missed the "fist of tight bass" with the recto. way too sloppy. Or is it the Mark IV i need? in that case, do i need to use a distortion pedal on the mark iv too?
get a mark IV for those sounds.

I am more of a fan of the recto series (just got back into the recto life myself), so my perfect amp would prob be a road king series II. supposed to have some delicious cleans in addition to that earth shattering recto tone.

don't get a distortion pedal for the mark. If you need just get an 808 or TS9 and set the gain to zero. the signal b00st alone should be enough.
