  • Frfr speaker question

I'm thinking of getting the line 6 helix and that Friedman frfr speaker . Seems like it's supposed to be used as a monitor facing you and then you run the helix to the pa . The shitholes I play that probably won't be realistic . My question is can I have the helix at my feet and the Friedman behind me like a combo amp or a small cab ? Or is that not what it's ment for ? Looks like it would be a fun and portable setup . I just know nothing about this frfr stuff . Thanks

you can put it were ever you want. one reason to use it as a wedge in front of you is to lower stage noise so front of house can adjust the mix better. I my self just listen to my signal thru what ever vocal monitors are on stage. this takes some getting used to but it is a whole lot less to carry in and set up. When you first start this the sound guys will probably not know what to do with you but after a time or two they will thank you for making there job easier.

It all looks like a lot of fun . Just wanna make sure I go the right route . Has anyone tried the Friedman with the line 6?

Haven't tried that combo. From what I've heard about the Friedman, is it gives you a bit of thump like a guitar cab does. So it makes it good for playing as a backline. The negative is it isn't totally flat if you want to hear the same as what's coming out of the PA. I run an FRFR powered monitor with my Axe-FX since I run it to FOH and always play with a PA. For practices I just use it into the monitor as if I was using an amp.

I am using a Helix Rack with an EV for the FRFR. It is pretty consistent live, going to the FOH. I was going to order the Friedman, but I wanted something that was flatter for my patches. The Helix is killer, but I would consider a different cab if you want the BEST performance out of it.

Basically, everything Paranoid said was what I was going to say.

There are no rules, there are only suggestions based on what worked and what didn't work from when others have tried. You can do whatever you want. Guys like Jimi Hendrix took the "feedback is bad" rule and turned feedback into his bitch.

Monitors are for you to monitor your sound. If you turn them around, they are still FRFR, but it will effect FOH - which is what you don't want, even with guitar amps.

            .

I use L6. But not the Helix. I have the HD500. I am fine with it. I am never going back to amps again (unless there is a road crew to move and set up). Load-in, set up, sound check, tear down, and load-out takes me a few minutes instead of hours.
I do not use FRFR. I the monitors provided by the sound company. Whether they be floor or ear, the result is the same.

This is the same thing for me, live. I pack my monitor just in case, but I usually don't have to use it because I am already in the wedges at the venue.

I run a pretty similar rig with a powered EV speaker into my unpowered Kemper and I just keep the EV usually behind me on one side of the stage(I sing and play guitar in my band) and it cuts through very well and I get the added benefit of being able to use all the different cabinets in my profiles too! Biggest thing I've noticed though is that the actual sound dispersion is a lot more narrow than a traditional guitar cabinet, so if you stand in front or behind your FRFR speaker then you're fine, but if not then you might have some trouble hearing yourself in full band contexts. I myself am kicking around getting one of the Gemini 2x12 powered cabinets for the power and cabinet aesthetic that I'm used to so that I can have more stage volume and a more easy to use stage setup.

I love these floor slant cabs that Mesa used to make in 1995: https://plus.google.com/+mesaboogie/posts/8rVSnBba6Ha

Wonder why they no longer make them?
