  • Jackson sl2h with marshallhead wolfetone pickups ?

Hi guys i wonder if anybody have tried wolfetone marshallhead set on their regular jackson sl2h ?

How did it tone out to be like ? It sounds well with the sl2h ? Very natural full organic tone with good harmonics and hair ? Crystal clear on high gain and tight on lowend chugging ?

Or has anybody tried motorcity detroiter pickup set ?

Marshallheads are lower output than what most people use in Soloists - they come stock with a JB and a Jazz.

That said, the Marshallheads have sounded good in everything I've heard them in. If you're looking on the hotter side, though, try the Timbre Wolf - I have a couple of these and love them.

Never heard of the Wolfetone company before, and now I'm interested. Thanks for putting them on my radar!

Yeah, Marshallheads are 9K, MKIIs are about the same (Alnico V magnets instead of Alnico II, so probably like 9.1K). A stock JB is 16.6K.

I got started with him because I wanted a lower-output JB-ish pickup for my 7 string. So far, I've loved everything he makes, though his P90s may be the best of the bunch. The Timbre Wolf has passed the JB for my favorite bridge pickup, as it's not quite as harsh but still punchy, and with a bottom end more like a Custom than the wooliness of the JB.

The Marshallhead pickup was designed for use in a Les Paul. I wouldn't try them in a SL2H... much brighter sounding guitar. The pickups are also way lower output than a SD JB. The are supposed to be a mildly overwound PAF replica. Not a modern high-gain pickup. Pick the right tool for the job.
