    Anyone have a new/current pic of metallic black color?

    I've owned a few USA models in metallic black before, but it was several years ago and I know that the color has changed a few times. A older model I had about 8 years ago had larger multi-color (green, red, orange) sparkles mixed in the paint. Some of the more recent models from 2-3 years ago look to be more like only silver sparkles in the paint, giving a metallic charcoal appearance when seen a few feet away.

    Anyone have a pic or know what the current "metallic black" color looks like in person? I want to buy a new 2016 USA Model, but don't want an axe that looks like it was smacked by a sparkle fairy wand.

    Any help or insight greatly appreciated. A close up pic in the right light would be awesome.

    The multi-color flake you describe sounds like the old holoflake finish. That's a totally different color.

    Black metallic is pretty much the same as its ever been. Gloss black with some small silver flake in it.

      Thanks... but I'm familiar with holoflake... definitely not holoflake... I'm talking about metallic black. Here are a few pics to elucidate the point:





      Both of these are "Metallic Black" USA Select Series finish... see the tiny multi-color glitter (red, green, blue). Pic #1 is a RR1 posted in old thread here on the forum; the other is an SL2H. This is the older "Metallic Black" finish I believe, and the newer is what your are describing, black with only silver glitter added. I just want to confirm before dropping some coin.

        Top pic is an RR1 I used to own. The flakes are tiny and hard to capture in a photo, but are definitely related to holoflake. (ie. Multi color depending on angle and intensity of light.)

          Hey, glad you replied to this thread... do you remember more-or-less what year your RR1 was?

          The most recent metallic black I owned abut 2-3 years ago was without the multi-color glitter... silver only. They keep changing the color and the jackson site is useless.

            IIRC it was a 1998. I thought I had the serial somewhere but can't dig it up. I bought it used. I remember checking back when I got it and it was built in the Ontario shop I believe.

              If it helps, these are pics of my metallic black RR1 1998. The flake consists on various colors, not just silver. It kind of hard getting the flakes on camera.

              I will paste the pics tomorrow, too hard doing this on a cellphone..

                  Isn't the multicolored sparkle Black Pearl or Pearlescent Black or something?

                      Well to bring this thread to a close, here is an up-close pic of Metallic Black circa March 2016 build date:



                      It basically looks black. I had to take this pic at an angle under a strong flash. It looks like regular black even at 6 inches away up-close. So they have changed the paint again for the record. I really like the way it looks though, as I wanted regular black... and this looks 90% the same, unless you get real close and at the right angle. No more multi-color sparkles, or large silver flakes. It's now more like a very fine, fine mist of silver dust mixed in the paint, sparingly.
