  • DV Mark MultiAmp

I was working Drum Wars last night with the Appiece Brothers and their guitarist for the night was Michael Angelo Battio. I was talking to him because he had two of the DV Mark MultiAmps and he said they are better than the Axe Fx2 for amp tones. He said the Axe has way better effects though. Anyway he was really into them but I honestly didn't even know they were in the game. I know the Mark Bass stuff is killer but never even looked at the DV Mark stuff. One of the advantages of this unit was for hi. He just saves all his settings on a SD card and they just plug into a unit so he can have his backline and all he has to carry is a SD and crazy double guitars lol. So has anyone played one at all? I never even hear them come up I. The conversation to be honest. Amplifire, helix, Kemper, axe is mostly it.

I have never seen one in person. Would love to though - it looks like a KILLER piece. When I was gigging on bass last year I got a beastly Mark Bass Tube 800 head with a couple of their cabs, and I was checking out the DV Mark stuff. Asked my Mark Bass dealer about it and he said he'd NEVER order it because he barely sells Mark Bass and that the DV Mark stuff doesn't seem to have a market (in my area anyway). Shame that guitarists are so traditional....

As a side note, DV Mark was the company that was slated to build the Music Man reissue amps. Never heard what happened with that, but as far as I know those reissues never came out. It would be cool if they did.....
    GEAR:

some guitars...WITH STRINGS!!!! most of them have those sticks like on guitar hero....AWESOME!!!!

some amps...they have some glowing bottle like things in them...i think my amps do that modelling thing....COOL, huh?!?!?!

    and finally....

i have those little plastic "chips" used to hit the strings...WHOA!!!!

Yeah the Mark Bass stuff is pretty popular but the DV Mark stuff not so much. I have seen it before at a guitar center but never plugged it in. I have to say I had no clue they had a rack mount like that though and MAB isn't some schmo he has access to what he wants to use (he doesn't have an amp sponsorship AFAIK just the dean deal) so it is intriguing to say the least. He was pretty stoked to show it off too which makes me more interested.

The idea of saving your presets to an SD card is awesome. Takes doing "fly dates" to a whole new level - IF the area you are travelling to has access to the Multi-amp. It would suck balls to show up to do a gig with your SD card and the promoter says, "Yeah, well, nobody heard of that thing on your rider, so here - use this 1976 Twin Reverb for the gig....it's all the rental company had!"

Did MAB mention if he carts his own Multi-amp, or has he had luck getting them in the towns he's playing?

He brought it to this gig but he is local here in Chicago and we obviously don't stock such an item in our shop. He made it seem like he traveled with it but the likeliness of it can't be great. Unless he has a deal with guitar centers to have them out and available wherever his tour is.

I messed around with one at GC a while back. I spent about 15 "quality" minutes with it. Walked away and never thought about it again. For the price, you may as well go Fractal - proven platform, supported to the point of exhaustion, and you know they sound amazing. The tones from the DV Mark were really unremarkable.

I thought the tones were on par with a POD HD.

Yikes. That is a bummer considering the DV Mark is about twice the price of the POD HD. Guess I am still glad to have my Helix rack....
