  • Amp Suggestions

    Hello all,
after my huge failure with the 50 watt 5150 III, I"m back now searching for a new amp. I'll list what I want / need it to do.

    1) Clean channel - I'm looking for a beautiful clear no break up clean channel. Think Fender Twin Reverb and thats what I'm after.
    2) OD channel - is is where the magic is , I want classic rock tones up to AC/DC type stuff.
    3) Drive channel - Think Metal 80's to today and everything in between. Heavy but clear.
    4) Control - Midi control to me seems like a must. How on earth are you suppose to control your amp and effects with pedals and a amp switcher? I like Midi control.
    5) Lower Wattage - I don't need 100 watts plus or if it does a power soak would be awesome to cut the power down to a lower wattage for home practice.
    6) Tubes - I'm not interested in a solid state or a Modeling amp. I'm old school and love warm tube sound.
I thought about having 2 separate amps one for play and one for practice but I'm not really into that idea. I want to play what I'm gonna play.

Money isn't really an issue, I'll pay what I gotta pay to get what I want.

Thanks in advance for suggestions , this is a pretty tuff road. Also I live in the Phila Area of PA so if there is somewhere I can go play suggested amp would be awesome. I'm not a internet shopper I like to touch and feel and play.

Looking at that list of requirements, I'll have to suggest the Mesa MKV and keep it on one of the lower power modes. It is not MIDI controllable, but it has the switching jacks, so IF that is REALLY a must-have, you can buy a VooDoo Labs GCX/Ground Control Pro or a Rocktron Patchmate/MIDI foot controller to work the various channels. Each of those products has 8 loops, so you could also add in your effects. I used the GCX/Ground Control so I know from experience that you can stack GCX units if you need more loops. BUT, going that route is very high-end. Do you really need it? Are you gigging a lot where you have to have the MIDI control?

If you want an amp that has it all built in look at the Hughes and Kettner Tri-Amp. That has 6 channels and MIDI. It is a beast.

    GEAR:

some guitars...WITH STRINGS!!!! most of them have those sticks like on guitar hero....AWESOME!!!!

some amps...they have some glowing bottle like things in them...i think my amps do that modelling thing....COOL, huh?!?!?!

    and finally....

i have those little plastic "chips" used to hit the strings...WHOA!!!!

They do look great but personally I have always been underwhelmed with them.

For what you want get a Bogner XTC with a powerbrake.

Have you thought of going the Axe route? The AX8 is only 1400 new and can do a lot for you. Just a thought.

I played a Bogner years ago and was fully impressed. At that time they where just out of my budget. I would love to re visit them but there is no where for me to go play them.

                I'm not into modeling amps.

+2. It's a 100w amp, but still sounds good at lower volumes

It's not all the way there but try the Bogner pedals. The Blue is so damn versatile it is insane imho.

Amp modelers and modeling amps are different.
And while I am not going to try to sway you if you are dead set against them, I just feel the need to make sure everyone (because this post appears in google search) is aware that the two words mean different things.

The Randall RM100 is not a current model is it? Can't buy one new? How about these modules? Only used market now? Maybe I'm missing something. I remember checking them out years ago and thought this was an excellent idea.
