  • Soloist chronologically Date

Guy's I got a soloist J3209,, dates by the ser# chart as an 87,, I know this was a kind of a transitional period from San Dimas to Ontario.
In the Kahler Rout the work order is written,, trying to see with the WO if this could have been an SD Body blank and complete later on.
Maybe some knows what all the other writings mean as well.

If it's an 87, I think it's unlikely that it's a SD blank. From as far as I can tell, they shipped as much stuff from Glendora as they could before they ceased operations there. Just look at all the Jackson logo'd Charvel plated guitars they shipped, probably to use up as many of the Charvel plates they had left over before the move. If it was a mid to late 86 date, then I'd think it's possible.

I aim just wondering as it appears from the Kahler Cavity that it is a low Work order number.,, Would like to know what the other Markings mean as well.

        Do I see a circled 'P' ?
        Poplar? :dunno:
        96xxxxx, 97xxxxx and 98xxxxx serials oftentimes don't indicate '96, '97 and '98.

          Looks like 8850

The work orders follow a general increment but are all over the place chronologically and can have a difference of thousands in from day to day log wise.
They do follow a trend with the earlier ones starting in the 1700s and hitting the 7.5k-8.5K range right around the 86 transition.
8850 would probably put you somewhere in 87 given all the other info.

I think "Yellow" indicated the paint color...just a guess.

I also have a hang tag with my soloist that is 35 serial numbers earlier than yours. There were no WO numbers on the hang tags then but the date was April 7 1987. I would imagine yours was some time soon afterwards. Likely April 87. Say happy 29th birthday!

Cool information..... What with the Circled P? Have never seen any reference to that,, and have always though the upper and lower bouts were mostly poplar

Cool. The "P" is for "Piss" Yellow ala Chris Holmes.

Satch I think older blanks got used sometimes in a pinch if they had too.
                      I had a 1990 dated RR 2 hum with a Kahler.
3 piece maple neck like the early SD's and maple body wings.
Odd thing it had RR and then a J and the serial number on the last fret.
Everything about it screamed SD but completed in 1990.
                      Really? well screw Mark Twain.

Satch - I just bought J3392 Soloist and it's hangtag says June 12, 1987. Still has the SD rout - when did they change to the bigger, Jackson rout? This one has the V and the circled P also in the JT6 trem cavity. Ever figure out what those meant?

even in '86 you see the larger route, 87/88 still had some w the smaller SD route. oddly its the tabbed single coil routes you don't see much of after 86.
