Nice one, I had a valvestate 8080 when they first came out, awesome amp

Cool. I got the 8240 stereo chorus combo when it first came out in the early '90s. Still have it to this day. I don't play it that much any more, but it still sounds great. I love turning the chorus on with the controls down so it gives it a great doubling effect.

Chuck Schuldiner used Valvestate amps so they can't be all bad. I had a wee AVT20 then an AVT150 and I LOVED them both. The AVT150 was too big for my needs but I wish I'd never sold the AVT20 it was an excellent sounding amp for practicing.

I am going to be bringing this amp to band rehearsal. I have been using my Rivera Suprema, my Peavey 6505+, my Bogner powered Spidervalve and even my Jet City JCA20H and my guess is this SS Marshall is going to be the best one out of all of them. I just can't get over how incredibly loud this amp is. With the volume on 4 its absolutely loud enough for a small to medium sized gig UNMIC'D with a loud metal band. The power section reminds me of the Roland JC120 Jazz Chorus a lot.
The gain is very much like the VS100 but with more gain and a lot more bottom end. I am surprised there isn't a cult following for this amp. I am really digging it.
Oh yeah... one more thing... its LIGHT WEIGHT!!!!

Yeah..those are cool. Drover uses VS 8200 live and recording. He Used The JMP-1 racks mostly. I knew mine sounded similar. Even our playing style is similar. He brought his stock SD-1 and plugged into CM's rack amp to get his smooth, and killer tone..very smooth gain!

The SD-1 is very similar to VS and JMP-1 s. Very player freindly, Smooooth, dynamic, Lively sustain..kinda like Blackstars. Need to try a Blackstar @ home tho. I always tweaked my amp, bass amps at home at a MUCH louder level,w drums than clubs to ensure tweakage. I had the best bass tones ever BITD..sounds like a grand piano. Oddly, I alys cultivated a bass tone from that Piano break in that song from Boston. If I can't get that tone, fuck that amp..Carvins and Ampegs worked for that. esp Carvins at half the cost.

I think I may buy a Blackstar. Uli Roth endorsed them now. They made me crank it a Guitar Center. The employees/customer, and myself were pleased. Those people/myself are constant tortured with lameness. I rather be water boarded than listen most players these days.

Never work at a music store. That must be hell on earth for good musicians.

I'm back at collecting nice gear like 25 years ago. It's fun and I love playing more than ever for myself. That's where I been. You can get really good on guitar if you tune out all things people, TV, and Internet. I used to tell my freinds I was grounded (teenage years) so I could play guitar. My guitars are my best freinds...beside family.

I have a question for any VS265 owners out in the JCF world!
When the chorus is disengaged on either the clean or the OD1/OD2 channels the amp volume drops
dramatically and gets very thin. It almost sounds like I am playing out of a
single 6" speaker. Its very thin with no bottom end at all and is unusable. Both
speakers are working in either mono or with the stereo chorus on. When I click
the chorus on the amp turns into a beautiful sounding amp in all respects. Super
loud too.
Speakers are hooked up correctly and there are no issues that I
could find internally. Any suggestions are appreciated. This can't be normal because the difference is dramatic. I know that there will be a difference because there are 2 power amps in this amp but the way the amp sits now its unusable unless the stereo chorus is engaged. I am turning the chorus all the way down for now until I sort it out but still you can hear the chorusing in the background.

I had a silly combo kinda like that. I think that was a TD-30 (?) Crate 2-10" combo that came out around 90. Dave Murray endorsed them then. I had two of them running thru a morley ABY..one started to get silly. So I flipped 'em. I was young then, and I swore nothing but 4 12 will do. But now I gotta 6505+ 12 combo for anything grab and go. My back is more fucked than Mick Mars.. But his tone was never better..ever.

So I see a connection between bad backs, gettin' old and tone!

Not a single response from the Marshall forum. I had the same problem with a Roland JC120 and it turned out to be that the speakers were plugged in incorrectly. I checked the speaker wires on this one and they are correct. There are pics of stock ones online and the color code matches mine. Go figure?

Could just be a quirk in the design. My Rivera S120 has built in chorus and it wimps out the sound terribly so I never use it. I asked Rivera about it and they said it was how the circuit was designed. next time I send it over to them I am having the chorus removed and separate presence and resonance controls (like my M60 and M100 have) installed instead.

I've never posted there, but I've lurked through the years. There seemed to be quite a few people there that loved the old Valvestates.

It ended up being one of the speakers was wired backwards! Anyway.. I have been using this amp at band rehearsal with my 80's hair metal band. We rehearse pretty loud. It sounds fantastic in every way. Nothing but compliments from band mates and I really enjoy playing it. Go figure... a solid state Marshall Valvestate El Cheapo combo sounds this good! Yea... it does have 1 12AX7 in it. lol......
