  • B Standard help

I'm trying to setup my guitar (Floyd Rose) for standard B tuning using 10 gauge strings and it keeps kicking out once I the lvl the floyd and tune again... lvl the floyd . Trying to achieve Carcass tuning swan song album. Maybe it's just not my day or I'm missing something... never had any problems setting my guitars up before... then again never took em this low. B F#B E G#C# any suggestions?

B,E,A,D,F#,B is standard B tuning. 13-56 gauge strings would be minimum for that tuning on a 25.5" scale. I'd personally use a 59 or 60 for the B.

Took me a while but I got it with 10, 42's on a 25.5 scale and the floyd is lvl. I dont have any 13's handy , I'll get some monday but for tonight this works... thanks for the help. the tuning I listed was apparently a drop B tuning I found on the net and the guy called it B standard... gotta love the internet. Thanks again Toejam.

Cool. Those strings would be way too floppy for me, but whatever works for you. Glad you got it sorted out.

In the back desk is better than my dog does. Gives me the look of "I killed this wiry looking worm for you" when she eats my cords..

I've been playing old Carcass since it was new Carcass....

13-56 is really the only way to keep any sort of tension in the strings. Since you got the floyd level you obviously figured out to run the screws out the back of the guitar to de-tension the springs. Back when you couldn't really get very heavy gauge strings easily it was a bit of a nightmare, like playing spaghetti! And the tone was terrible. It's much better now with all the string options that are available for the drop tune and 7/8 string guys.

Which song are you working on?

I cannot imagine playing 10s tuned down that low. Heck, 9s tuned to normal pitch feel loose to me.

Hey Matt, if 9's feel loose, you wouldn't want to try Billy Gibbons 7's! I tried a set on my Les Paul and sort of dug em. But you can't get hung up on the tension. They don't take much to move them a mile.

"I leave off the back plate and pinch my forskin between the tension springs. That may not work for everyone. But I find that the people love it. Half the tone is in the pud." - Bill Z

Same here. I can only use 9s on my 27" scale 8-string.
