  • Custom select ordered and a question

So I finally decided to make the leap to having a USA Jackson. Filled out my order sheet at my local Jackson dealer and put down the deposit for a CS Soloist.
My question is there good place to see what the different color options look like on a guitar? Those color swatches from the Jackson site leave much to be desired. Trying to decide between Orion Silver or Fire Mist Silver. The quote sheet is setup with Orion Silver but it hasn't been sent to Jackson yet for approval.

Here are the specs if anyone is interested:
    • SL2H
    • Single Hum, Single volume knob moved back
    • Top mount floyd
    • Mahogany body
    • Graphite truss rod
    • 80s logo in red and 80% size

    So nothing really fancy

Love those specs....because they're similar to what I'd want hahah. I think your best bet would be google/ebay, to try to find existing examples of guitars done in those finishes. Or, hopefully someone here has seen both and can give you some info.

The colours can be pretty difficult to picture. Best bet is googling them...
Popular is not the same as good
Rare is not the same as valuable
Worth is what someone will pay, not what you want to get

Even if you can find pictures of each finish on line the odds are the pictures were not taken under the same conditions.

Many of the colors have been done on the Fender line. If you Google a Fender strat with that color, oftentimes you can find a decent image of the color.

Just for a visual reference, I'll add these googled pics. The Soloist is Orion Silver, the Rhoads is Fire Mist Silver.
            96xxxxx, 97xxxxx and 98xxxxx serials oftentimes don't indicate '96, '97 and '98.

Thanks everyone. I don't think either color is bad so I will just stick with my original choice. The fire mist silver in that lighting almost looks like a washed out pastel blue.

Just odd that the only thing I question myself on is color since it's going to be my first non "budget" guitar.

Yeah, reminded me of blue cotton candy.

Depending on which dealer you use (i.e. how their relationship is with the CS), you MIGHT be able to get them to send you a colour sample so you can check it out in real life..

Graphite reinforced so that would be along side the truss rod

Yep, I have a Firemist Silver CS Soloist on order... due in August timeframe. When I saw those pictures of the V from the Axe Palace I knew I made the right choice for me. Firemist silver was a vintage Fender color adopted by the Jackson Custom Shop. Fender adopted it from Cadillac in the '60's. Depending on the lighting it can look silver with a hint of blue or pastel blue. Spec'ed mine out with black hardware for contrast. I love it. Counting the days.
