  • replacing 87 3b pickups

so ive recently acquired this amazing 87 3b but ive been told that jackson pickups are really bad. so im wanting to replace them the big question is do i go for an active set of EMG and new emg electronics or do i use passive emg pickups and keep the jackson electronics

What do you mean by the Jackson pickups are bad? Do they not work, or are you just listening to some idiot tell you they're not good? If you've got it and it works, judge for yourself how they sound to YOU.

the bass sounds good i was just told that the old jackson pickups were notoriously under wound and id get even better tone with better brand pick up

Better tone is up to you to decide. If it works well, don't mess with it. Plenty of people love Jackson pickups.

I'd do as toejam suggested & let your ears tell you if they need replacing..
The 3B I picked up has EMG Select Passive pickups & the factory preamp & it sounds fine & I doubt that they sound any better than the stock pickups..
