  • 'Bout time for a rig update for my fellow gear-whores @ JCF...

    Went from this:

    To this:

Guitar Center is blowing out the Line 6 DT50's right now, and I still regret the day I sold my DT25 head, so I took the opportunity, traded my Carvin, and snagged the DT50 head. Awesome amps - if you haven't tried one out, you should. It's NO Spider, that's for sure!! I downloaded the 2.0 upgrade, so right now, it has the Plexi100 BRT, Park 75 BRT, JCM800, Soldano SLO Crunch, Soldano SLO Lead, Mesa Recto, Engle, and one of the L6 originals in the preamp. I kept the Eleven Rack too, since it sounds so damn awesome with the MosValve. Selling the Pod Pro and Floorboard. They're a dime a dozen anyway, and I'd probably just grab a bean anyway...love those damn things...

Anyway, I'm running one of the Zoom MS-100BT's in front of the amp, so that I can use the ODs, Distortions, etc., to push the front of the amp, and grabbed a second one (used) for the time based effects and modulations in the loop. These pedals are SUPER cool. Check them out if you are one of those people who likes to tinker with different effects. You can put up to 6 pedal models in a string! All in all, a very cool setup. The EVH cab was for sale locally on CL, so I snagged that for a song. It still isn't broken in! Just a hole in the grill-cloth, but no biggie. Sounds BIG, and gets PLENTY loud for a bedroom rocker.

Fun stuff. I keep going backwards... While I really liked my Kemper and AxeFx rigs, I (dare I say it) like this more!

nice! I jam through a little marshall valvestate 8040 and an old boss me-30 processor. id give my left leg to get my jcm 800 head back. nice to know there are other ways to get that sound

Nice, I just dumped my Digitech 2101 I've been using for years for an Eleven rack through a VHT 2/90/2 with Marshall cab.
        METAL, LIVE IT!

Do you have a tech do your switching for you? There's no way you can handle all that tap dancing by yourself with those five pedals!

Lol... Crazy, right?? K.I.S.S. method. One pedal to push the front, one for the loop, and a tuner that's is usually always on, and feeds from the volume pedal on its own output. Those Zoom pedals are the shit though! Every effect I would ever need in one small package. Check 'em out if you are so inclined...

The Boss actually just runs the tap tempo on my 11R. I'll likely snag a Voodoo GCP for the 11R at some point.

                Like those?

I wanted some LP's back in my quiver, but I didn't want to pay for Gibby's. I wanted something LPC-ish, but a bit more "modern", and with better specs, better playability, and tuning stability.

They are ESP/LTD EC-1000T CTMs. Features - 22 jumbo frets. mahogany body & neck, FULL THICKNESS bodies (!!!), bound front & back, ebony fretboard, Tone Pros bridge & tailpiece, and locking ESP tuners. The neck is thinner in profile than a Gibby - feels fast & very playable. I think they call it a "Thin U" profile. They sound terrific! I snagged a black one as well! The ones with EMG's shipped with 81 (b)/60(n), but I swapped out the 81's and put in 85's. I have never liked EMG's, but they sound great in these guitars, as well as with my rig. The one with the gold covers has Dimarzio 36th PAF's. Very nice growl to those as well.

They aren't going to BE an Les Paul Custom, but they don't give up much on the real deal.

I'm also playing a couple EVH Wolfgang Special HT's. Love these guitars... Took me some time to warm up to the whole package from a cosmetic standpoint, but man...they play nice!

The Carvin was sure pretty, but it wasn't a guitar I was grabbing for much at all...so off it went!

Wow, they all look pretty sweet!

I'll also have to check into the Zoom pedal. Does it have the option for more than one effect at a time?

Yeah, those Eclispe are sweet. If I were to own any LP style guitar, it would be an Eclipse... They really make Gibsons feel stupid, IMO.

And it's interesting to note... in your previous picture of your rig, you only had the two eclipse, but in the new one, you have 3?

I picked up an Eclipse to plug into a 6505 combo at GC and was very impressed by both.
Any way you could possibly put more shit into your sig?

That was an older picture - before I bought the black guitar or the new amps. "They really make Gibson feel stupid"...lol...couldn't have said it better myself!

You can use up to 6 effects at a time. I haven't done it though. I'm not quite the effect dependent...or literate...

                        So anyway...

Welp...like all things, this amp sounds better with Greenbacks!

I guess I just don't like ANY cab that has a Celestion with the term "30" in it. The EVH's G12H-30's had too much mid for my taste. Not quite to the level of V30's, but approaching it. I just happened to be out and about, and came across a Marshall 425A with G12C-25's in it - basically a custom Greenback. I thought, "Wow - this looks a lot like the one I had about 3 or 4 years ago." I plugged into it, and it sounded good with another L6 amp, so I looked on back - ORANGE duct tape! It WAS INDEED my old cab! Grabbed it...and won't let it go this time.

Doesn't almost every amp sound better with greenbacks? lol

Same here. I only really use chorus, delay or reverb sparingly, and sometimes a little bit of wah.

It's funny how a certain speaker can make or break a rig. I'm pretty much a Greenie or T75 guy. Everything else just bugs me!

I pretty much always have delay on, and chorus on occasion.
