    Hi guys. Finally had the coin to drop on Jackson Custom Shop. Pulled the trigger on 2013 red soloist, maple board, dots-sweet axe. Seller brought it to me. Went to my techs to put strings on/intonate/set-up. Guitar checked out great, no breaks ect. Added new strings (10-46 standard tuning) that's when problems started to crop up. Treble side saddles riding up the tail of the floyd reducing the travel of fine adjust. 12th fret measures perfect. Measured 24 7/8" to the bridge post. I always thought this needed to be firm at 25"? ( my question part of the post)
    Email sent to FMIC, FMIC replys, call'd them, referred to local repair station. Repair station calls back says FMIC does'nt warranty second hand buyer. Says they have no guarantee it was'nt altered at some point.blah blah blah. Who the hell is going to dow/redrill posts and miss it, plus there is no seem showing if it had been.
    So basically I have a 2K priced instrument that is "wrong". I have a Gotoh/Floyd that may offer more saddle travel but that's the only option-an 1/8th inch may still to much to compensate. Fortunately the seller/broker is understanding and may offer refund/store credit as he may not be the orig buyer as well. Regardless here is an example of a custom shop level instrument the was made incorrect. At this point I'd pay shipping both ways to get this corrected by the shop or taken out of circulation . My local guy can dow,reset but there is no way this should have to happen for a custom shop instrument. WTF
    I may be showing my age here but there was a time and you ordered your Jackson from a manual and I guarantee you the guitar did not ship not being able to intonate. Further more if I was the first owner and had the luxury of returning it, it would piss me off losing a new instrument to an issue that should have never made it to the shipping door.
    Any suggestions? I really like the guitar otherwise and may invest more into it to it to repair. Absolutely no way i'd feel comfortable selling even at a loss. Strangely there are a few new red custom shop soloist selling new at reduced pricing. Coincidence? I really want to be a happy Jackson owner.

        It doesnt boad well hearing stories like this crop up from time to time on here.. I agree there defo should not be mistakes like this on custom shop guitars at such a high price tag. I wonder if any of the high end instruments of late 80's/early 90's came out of the Chushin Gakki factory Japan with mistakes like this. Looks like USA have dropped their standards and QControl.

          It sucks when things like this happen but guitars are made by humans and humans are imperfect hence so are the things they make. BTW, please use paragraphs when you post. Doing so makes the post much easier to read.

            Photos will come if I decide to keep the instrument. It's still across town at the FMIC repair center. Still waiting to hear back from seller/broker on a resolution. +1 on paragraphs.

              You would figure that the fact it could not be intonated would be something the seller would have known.

                  Matt you're 100% right about the human aspect.....but that's why QA/QC was invented. In this case QA's major accomplishment was probably to sign the hang tag. In my business, if this shit got through someone would be fired.

                    The stud holes for the trem should have been cut by CNC regardless of whether the guitar was Custom shop or not. I can't imagine drilling out those holes by hand - it's a complete waste of time that only introduces the possibility of issues.

                      I've had three Soloists (2005 and two 2008's) - all of them had different size trem routes and the 2005 was not possible to intonate. For the same reason mentioned by the OP. Funnily it was the only one with proper string alignment. All Select s, btw

                        I don't know if it would fit, but don't Schaller / JT-590's saddles sit farther back on the baseplate than an OFR? That might help give enough travel for intonation (if a JT-590 would fit).

                          Not sure how to post pics but the soloist is in the shop. Chose the dowel/plug/redrill approach. Guy does all my major setup/repair work. Seller is going to help on the bill. Seems to be a lot of work on an instrument that should have never made it to shipping but in the end I hope all is right. I'll continue to update.
