So I got my JVM back from my tech today

    So I got my JVM back from my tech today

    Ok I got this thing back today
    first impressions:
    the NegFB mod: is killer, it really opens up the amp and let's it "breath", it's like taking a blanket off of the front of the cab, much better response and feel.
    OD2-OD1 seems like the Mids are better balanced? I've never played the 410 so I don't know what the difference is, but I do know that it
    doesn't sound like I need my 10 band EQ in the loop any more.
    Plexi mod:
    I can actually turn the treble up to noon now and presence up to10:00 without shrill harsh highs
    it actually sounds much warmer on the high end.
    Gain reduction Mod
    We went with the 100K resistor, but I may have him put a pot on the front, now I can get the gain knob up to around noon and it
    sounds great for Orange/Red but I like the gain on Green at around 3:00 so I could use a little more reduction.
    There is definitely much less noise and the orange channel sounds "thicker" to me, I can't tell if that's a combination
    of all of the mods or because I can turn the gain up to noon without getting 5150 hiss any more LOL!
    all in all a well spent $75.00
    Anyone who has a JVM should think about at least the negFB and the Plexi cap mods, those 2 alone really open this thing up
    and it didn't exactly suck stock LOL!

        Have any other mods in mind on the next go around?

        I would suggest the choke mode and the compression reduction. Also, love the KT77 in the JVM.

          I don't have any others, the choke? my tech said (as have a few others I've spoken too) the difference is negligible, he'll obviously do it for me if I want
          with the Neg FB mod the amp does not feel or sound compressed at all any more.
          I can turn it back down to stock (and lower) to gt it compressed but why would I want that LOL!

          KT-77's?? Hmm............I've liked them in other amps and I do have a fresh quad of those, and EL-34s and EL-34L's
          I'm undecided on which tube to throw in there next, I might try the EL-34L's first.

            I just picked up a quad of JJ E34L to try in my stock JVM. Seems to have a little more lows than EL34's but I have not played it at stage volume yet.
            On my moded JVM, I did the stock/800 FB on a switch hoping it would give me that low end dynamics of an EVH 5153 but not so much. On the new head, I will definitely put the -FB on a pot.

              so that must be you over on the JVM forum posting looking for that Recto thump etc?
              I don't think I need any more lows for what I'm playing (material wise) with my JVM.
              I have a couple of Original 1970's Mullard 12AX7's and Tungstram 12AX7's (I found in my parents house when my mom passed away and we cleaned out the house), that I just had tested that I should throw in to V1,V2. My tech thinks I'll absolutely love what they do in combination with a quad of KT-77's, so I may go that route first.
              First rehearsal coming up this Sunday with the mods so I'll see then how much better I like this amp now.

                I had a bunch of mods done to my JVM last week and today was the first day I got to try it at rehearsal.
                What a difference
                anyone that has a JVM should definitely think about getting the negative feedback mod, and the plexi mod done.
                The amp sounded much more "classic Marshall, more open , rounder , bigger and smoother than stock.
                To me it sounds much more like a JCM800, my drummer said it sounded more "Van Halen-ish" whatever that means.
                I also did the OD2-OD1 mod which is only really needed on the 210's or 205's. This switches the EQ of the OD channel to OD 1 which is more classic marshall voiced.
                Went with no EQ in the loop , no clean boost ...nada.
                Charvel(s) ->JVM ->JCM800 2X12.
                need a nice chorus, a Wah and Delay and I'm all set with this rig

                  I put a 10Henry choke on mine. It makes quite a difference in feel and response of the amp, much more classic Marshall. Tone wise it is a minimal difference.

                      Necrobumb, but I was playing a older Gibson Explorer with an X2N bridge through the JVM. I was getting very close to the "Countdown" tone, I am enjoying this amp more every time I play it.

                          I can second that. The bitch is the only way you can remotely trust one is with a great referral, and even then the first time you use them you still feel like it's a crap shoot. Then when you finally find you trust, they rarely stay in business very long. At least in my area. Just sucks!

                            I did the mods myself, they aren't all that difficult. Anybody can do them, although I do a lot of circuit board/wire repair and modding work as part my job.

                              I've thought about trying to set the bias myself, but I would feel much more comfortable paying someone to do it and teaching me how, at least the first time. I have a real aversion to being electrocuted.
