  • Fixing broken DK2M

I just received a new DK2M but the shipper decided to pack the guitar inadequately and the tip of the headstock got busted. Is this fixable? or should I just send it back to him and let him fight it out with FedEx who will tell him the same thing I saw, The guitar was packed poorly.

Here are the photos of the damage https://imgur.com/a/k5Ez2#sHqdlbq

I think it is easy to fix, if you have missing tip and bindings and some wood glue and cyanoacrylate for binding. It will not look like new because it has natural finish, though, repairs will be visible. Seller should give partial refund.

I repaired a RR Pro with similar damage and it was not so easy because I had to buy some binding and make a new headstock tip:

Thanks Zedder. That's what I was thinking was that it could be glued back on. Wouldn't be perfect but look much better than a huge chunk out of the headstock. My personal pet peeve when buying a jackson is chipped headstock. Why don't people know how to pack a guitar for shipping?

I agree on chipped headstocks, as well as, fins. Have tech check it out, or check it out yourself, to make sure no other damage or other structural issues. If all is good otherwise, then seek some kind of restitution from the seller.

On a side note I wonder if I packed the Epiphone LP, I just sent, correctly. I detuned the guitar, placed it in the soft case, placed that in a triangular guitar box, Styrofoam spacers & crumpled paper to keep the case/guitar from shifting, and put that box into a rectangular box.

I'm loving the Jaded Faith mods. Going Egnater Dual mod route: Voxless, SL-OD100, Brahma #39, QuickMod GT

I've shipped over a hundred guitars and never had a issue. Well a paint chip ( I think) I've received guitars with damage from a trem arm not wrapped in case and bounced around singing a model 88. No down down tune required.

This guitar was shipped in a cheap ratted out Roadrunner case in a single box with no padding on either end. Inside the case he had bubble wrap loosely laid over the headstock. It appears some package ape or machine dropped the box on one end caving in and breaking the hardshell case.

You paid for a new guitar. It's fixable, but you shouldn't have to take the hit in value or deal with arranging for repairs. I'd send it back and let the seller deal with it. YMMV, if you don't mind settling for a broken/repaired guitar and the guy is very generous with the compensation for the hassle & loss of resale value.

I'm with dg. A new guitar losses enough value after you buy it. Send it back.

It's not a brand new, it's a 06/07 DK2M but I agree that I am probably sending it back if the seller ever responds to the email with pictures I sent. If not it was purchased off ebay through paypal so I am sure i'll be fine.
