  • JE-1000 gain boost

I got an original JE-1000 gain boost to install into my Limited Edition '88 that has the original J50bc in the bridge and a Fast Track II in the neck. The JE-1000 has two pots with knobs attached to it. What do they do, and how do I wire this thing in? Is there a way to turn it on and off, or is it always on? FYI I'm not an Alexi fan and I can't stand Children of Bodom. Just looking for the option to boost my gain when I do not have access to a high-gain amp.

Looks like the pot on the circuit board is for volume, the extra pot is tone, and there might be an on/off switch for the gain boost. But I believe looking at the circuits that the circuit will always be on, and if your battery dies you won't have output.

Here is one more catalog page that describes the different configurations the JE1000 came in:

So it looks like yours is the "T" configuration. If I'm reading it right, since you don't have the switch the gain boost will always be on, and you set the boost level with the trim pot on the circuit board. If you had the switch, it would give you the option to turn the boost off.

The installation diagram is at the top right here:
