  • NOTP's "Deal or No Deal?" - Possible Jackson USA RR1T for CAD$600?

I'm browsing online classified ads in my city as usual.

This particular listing escaped my "jackson" keyword automated e-mail notification since the word "jackson" isn't mentioned anywhere. Actually, nothing is mentioned except "make me an offer" and a bunch of photos of various types of gear. The only item in the stash that caught my eye was this:

So I e-mailed the seller asking what is the best price on just the Jackson Rhoads, and nothing else in all the other photos. The seller quickly replied with CAD$600 including the hardshell case. I'll try and see this guitar tonight.

Just by looking at that one photo, I am almost positive it is a USA RR1T, but I could be wrong. I don't see "Made in USA" on the headstock. But it does look neckthru with a bound ebony board, and three control knobs, which are clues that it is an RR1T. Thoughts or confirmation of model?

Deal, or no deal? ie - Worth investigating further and checking out in person, or don't bother?

    Thanks in advance.

It could be one of the RRXT's http://www.ebay.com/itm/Jackson-Rhoa...item19f1ff1cc8

If that's the case, then 600 is a freaking rip off.

I have a hunch it's an earlier RRXT. Pickups seem to be Duncan Designed, and it's just dark rosewood. The early RRXTs had 22 frets, and the 24-fret model only replaced it later.

Not worth it at that price.

Looks real, but like you said, it's hard to see the Made In USA since the pic is small. Board looks like ebony, but may be dark rosewood. That would be a great deal for an RR1T, though!
As far as logo, it could either be MOP or regular white painted, as they varied for some strange reason on the RR1T.

There are now NECKTHRU import Rhoadses? Jackson has come a long way in the past decade trickling the USA-only features down to the import level. They are really blurring the lines now. When I was actively browsing guitar forums, eBay, and classifieds a decade ago, it was easy to pick apart the imports solely based on Duncan Designed pickups, EMG-HZ pickups, bolt-on necks, no binding, lack of ebony boards, etc.

Just received a reply from the seller. It does NOT say "Made in USA" on the headstock.

I'm starting to hate sellers that only include one photo in their listings. I get too easily dazzled by what look like great deals only to find out they are not.

          NO DEAL!

          Thanks for playing along guys!

Ah, that's a bummer it's not a USA. Jackson sure has come a long way with its imports, but I don't think they're making anything in Japan any more since they closed the Japanese plant. Everything seems to be Mexican or Indonesian now.

Man, I have truly been living under a rock. I had no idea there were no more Japanese imports these days. Funny you mention Indonesia, as that is what the seller of this Rhoads said when I asked where it was made instead of USA.

When I started this topic, the listing had only been posted on the local classifieds site about 40 minutes prior. After the seller and I exchanged a few quick replies, he revealed that he got bombarded with two dozen e-mails within a half-hour timespan shortly after originally posting his ad, and that I was among the first to inquire. I'm guessing he received many lowball offers for the whole package as well as questions like mine that asked about the origin and model number.
