  • DK-1 owners out there?

A few days ago, I traded a 2010 Les Paul Studio and some cash for a 2013 Jackson DK-1 in quicksilver. I absolutely love it. I own several Soloists and I am surprised that the quality is right up there. Call it ignorance, but I had never seen a USA Dinky and I didn't realize there were Jacksons with bolt-on necks that cost that much money. But once I picked it up, I knew how well it was put together. With the active EMG pickups, it gives me a different sound than the other Jacksons as well. But I'm really amazed at how great it feels.

So finally someone else reallizes that it doesn't have to be neck-thru to be a great Jackson. Happy NGD. She's beautiful.

Dinkys are great guitars, and DK1s probably have my favorite neck profile in the current USA lineup. ...Not a fan of the EMGs, though.

      Congrats, that's a cool color.

I've always preferred my Jackson bolt on's over neck thru. Strat more than Dinky. And not so much with the imports, especially the cheap ones.
But I will say, I have played some neck thru guitars with different shaped neck/body joints. It makes a huge difference.

You probably got the better deal, both financially and playability.

The majority of my guitars have a mix between passive Dimarzio and Duncans, but I do have a few guitars with active EMGs and I have to say they suit this guitar well. Keep in mind I normally play very heavy metal and run through an Ampeg SS-150 amp. But this is one well put together guitar. I have a nice mix of Jackson USA guitars and I put it right at the top... I don't like to rank them because they all have different characteristics I like.

Nice one! Love the color. I see you've got the 85 in the bridge and the 81 in the neck... just how I like them!

I would love a string through DK1. I prefer passive pups though.

              nice fiddle!

Love Quicksilver! It goes with the pearl sharks perfectly.

I've had two DK1's, now one, but love them both! Absolute favorite guitars I've ever had. I'd like to get another one when the $$ allows for it.

I have yet to find a neck-through guitar that I can bond with. I've had a couple soloists and a Model 6 and prefer the feel of a bolt on for some reason. Maybe it's the way it resonates or something.

I'm glad this thread didn't turn into a battle over bolts versus neck thru....maybe I will push it there

Growing up, I thought that neck thru was the pinnacle of guitar design. When I didn't have one, I wanted one. When I got one, I loved it and never looked back. However, I found lots of people that prefer bolts. I have a DK-1 and while I like the unfinished neck, the heel does bother me every once in a while. A Soloist with an unfinished neck seems to be the perfect compromise.

I never bought into the whole, "a bolt neck means you can replace it if it breaks" thing. I like to think I won't break my neck But like I said, there are legions of people who actually prefer bolts, so to each his own.
