  • 1988 Soloist - Wiring

Just got a 1988 USA Soloist that has the factory original S/S/H setup with 3 knobs and the 3 small pickup selector switches. My best guess is that this guitar originally had a Jackson active circuit setup and one of the knobs originally controlled the active boost. The active setup/board is now gone(probably died) and the original pickups are wired a bit weird. 1st knob is volume and the 2nd and 3rd knobs BOTH seem to control the "tone" on the humbucker.

My question: If someone ordered a 1988 USA Soloist with 3 knobs and 3 mini pickup selector switches WITHOUT the active setup, what exactly would the 2nd and 3rd knobs control ? I want to wire this one up like it came from the factory without the active setup. I'm guessing the bridge pickup is a J-50C since it's not that hot on the output. In fact, I may toss in a J-80 or J-90C while I'm at it.

i never owned a soloist with 3 knobs and toggles but id assume itd be something like a model 6 minus the circuit.

edit- i wouldnt wire from toggles to the center of the pots tho. idk why that guys diagram is like that. center would be going out while the outer tab would be the in and the other outer tab to ground. hope that helps

Each pickup should go to its own switch first, then center lug of volume to jack. The two tone pots to the switches for the single coils. Making it wired like a strat. The center lug of each switch to to each other then to the left lug of the volume. rhay should work.

What brand of potentiometers was Jackson USA using in the late 80's on guitars without active electronics ?

Dude, it's a 1988. It is WELL past its "use by date". If you want, I will take it off your hands so that the mold it most definitely has from being that old does not transfer to any of your other guitars.
I won't even charge you for shipping ...that's how concerned I am about it.

WTF are you talking about ? I'm just looking to replace the incorrect pots in this thing with period-correct pots and rewire it myself............. just want to purchases what Jackson was using originally.

Period correct, meaning you want to find NOS pots made in '87, WHY? Just use new CTS pots.

I'm talking about the fact that it is an old guitar and you should play a newer guitar. AND while you're out acquiring said newer guitar, I'll be happy to take that crappy OLD guitar off your hands.....just trying to help a bro out

OK, maybe I just confused everyone. Let's try this again. Was Jackson using CTS pots in the USA Custom Shop guitars in 1988? No, I'm not looking for 1988 pots, just the correct brand/model.
