  • What do you guys think of the G major 2?

Or is the D2 a better buy since I'm a delay freak?

The G Major 2 has pretty decent reverb and chorus effects. Not a fan at all of its delays though, one of the reasons I got rid of it. Haven't tried the D2

If you just want delay, get the D-Two. I never liked the G Major (1) so I never went for the GM2.

You guys are killing me. I was told the G Major stuff was really good.

If not, what is a good effect unit to use in the effects loop of a head?

id say it depends on how much you need as Wilkinsi said. I personally loved my Gmajor (1) but then I use minimal effects. The things I loved about it was the midi, the eq, the noise suppression and though it didnt have super delay it had enough for what I do. Worked great with my v3 and my jvm.

edit-guess i scrolled too fast. by donP's post I thought he was the OP. that being said, if you're a delay freak then the gmajor probably wont cut it for you.

There is nothing wrong with the G-Major as an all around good multi effects unit. I don't have the G-Major 2, I have the original G-Major and I also have a G-Force. I like them both. If you want to get super picky about Delay you can always shell out the big money on a TC 2290
I also like some of the older low tech units like the Marshall JFX-1. But those are difficult to find and haven't been made new in many years. The original G-Major is available used for pretty cheap prices so I'd probably look at those.

I run the Digitech GSP1101 using 4CM in the effects loop of my Carvin V3M. Love it. It does all that modeling crap, but I just turn that shit off and use it strictly for the effects. I primarily use the noise suppression, OD, chorus, delay, verb. I don't use a lot of effect, just a light touch. The only thing I wasn't a fan of is the Wahs. I just run a Bad Horsie II out front instead. It's pretty easy to program with a netbook running X-edit. I've never tried to use the small LCD to program it. Got mine for a steal at $200.

Eventide Timefactor? If your budget is limitless then the Eventide H8000 will piss all over anything else put together.

Some good suggestions so far, but let me clarify. I am lazy about using pedals, and typically the spring reverb in my DSL100 is good enough. But every once in a while I'd like to try something.

I bought a Midiverb 4 back in 1998 and used it maybe 4 times. I guess I'm just not big into effects or pedals, I just want to plug into an amp and go.

So considering I'm not into effects, budget would be low. Should I just dig out the Midiverb and see if it can do the job? I also have a PODxT with all packs loaded - which would be better for an effect processor?

Awesome suggestions fellas! The G Major 2 I lined up in my rack and managed to pick up a new friend as well for a little boostage!

I just got a G-Major 2 last week. Love it. I use it here at home for practice and recording (with the Two Notes Torpedo Live). The PC editor for the G-Major 2 makes it really easy to set up. I like the delays in it, in particular the dynamic delay, but I also prefer clean delays and do not use much effects, and when I do it's usually with a very low mix. You can set up some low pass filtering in the delay, though, so it sounds like an old tape echo or something like that. Speaking of TC, I had a couple of G-Majors some years ago, and those were nice as well, except for the well-known knob problem. I've been using the G-System in my band setup, it's great! Awesome with the loops and all.

javert do you just use a USB cable to hook it up to a computer?

You have to use the MIDI in/out. You can connect it with one of those midi-to-usb cables. I bought the cheapest one I could find and it works.

BTW, I do not know the specs for the D2, but thinking it's a studio unit, it may not be able to switch patches quick enough, unlike 'live-use' units

although if it recognizes SysEx, it may still be usable, since it wouldn't need to 'reload' an entire program, but rather change a specific parameter
                              (on/off or higher/lower value)
