  • Help with setting Bill Lawrence 500L height :S

Hi guys got em in my RR1, they have stock angled pickup rings (who knows why) n i was tweaking n have completly shifted the heights

my action is low so i cant do his nickel trick, wat measurement should i use on the open E's for correct output? Are these pups like EMG's and have to be as close as possible? Or do they need distance?

I'm assuming they need distance since they're passive. I wouldn't go by anyone's hard-n-fast measurements and instead go by what sounds best to you.

Lower them as far as they'll go and begin raising them slightly, comparing the tonal changes as you go.
I want to depart this world the same way I arrived; screaming and covered in someone else's blood

The 500 Ls have bar magnets, so you have to be careful they
don't pull the strings. But they don't exert all that much pull,
so shouldn't be a problem getting the action low. Def. be willing
      to experiment...

          +1 to what newc suggested.
That is how I do it.
Too close to the strings you lose the dynamics of the pick up.No harmonics and sustain and sounds choked out.
Not to mention magnetic pull on the strings causing tuning issues.
Main thing is to get both pick ups at the same volume then tweak the height at the treble and bass sides to get the tone you are looking for.
Start low and work up to where you like it.
          Really? well screw Mark Twain.

Thanks guys im gonna start low n go by my ear .

i had no idea if they had to be as close as possible but now that i know it'll help shitloads .
I think they could be L-500XL's. A guitar tech once had a look n said it says made in usa on the back so im guessing could b billlawrenceusa. Once i started looking into it got confusing, had no idea it sort of split into 2 different companies n that Bill Lawrence isnt a birth name.

If it's the BL USA I find those pickups to be all output no tone. They are thin shrill and lack in every way but being high output and harmonics are good. As far as nice tone it's better off as a paper weight
