I do believe the set screw to lock it is on the back side of the unit. I am not 100% on that though.

No set screw on the older units. I think there may be a hex screw on the top side.

Ill have to look tonight! I thought the same as you but yesterday I looked and no set screw on the backside.

That locking feature is new and not found on older models.

Kahler now makes 3 lines of trems:

The 2XXX series that is handmade by Kahler and their Dwarvish craftsmen out of Mithril. These are the most expensive and are basically the original design with a slightly different looking baseplate. Looks like just about all of them have the set screw. Kahler sells these direct.

The 7XXX series that is made in the Kahler factory but aren't handmade. These are usually $100+ less expensive than the 2XXX series. Many (not sure if all) have the small set screw on the back of the bridge to lock it in place. Wammiworld, Kahler, and other dealers sell these.

The 4XXX series made in China that come on import guitars. Not available for individual sale. Many, possibly all of these, also have the set screw.

It's probably possible to buy a new baseplate and cam, but for that price, you might as well buy a new bridge. The 7XXX series are typically $160+ on ebay and dealer sites. Wammiworld offers lots of variants on pre-assembled Kahlers…steel rollers, brass rollers, teflon rollers, different cams, etc.

KAHLERS SUCK argument in 3…2…1…

No argument here. I wouldn't say they suck but I don't like anything about them. Especially how the bar goes in between the strings. That's a huge design flaw in my opinion.

Thanks for the help guys! I just ordered a heavy spring set and I think that will get me halfway where I want to be as far as feel is concerned. I was hoping that i could utilize the set screw to give me a little more tension and a better feel. I think the sprigs will help seeing as how I am using 10-52 strings.
