  • Were the J50BC/J200x2's

Designed to be used exclusively with the Jackson active mid boost? Or can they be used as stand alone pickups in other guitars and NOT sound like ass?

The single I believe were. Lats time I tried them without a midboost they sounded really shrill to me. Maybe it was the 500k volume/tone pots not sure
    It's pronounced soops

Never say never with Jackson, but I have never and I mean never seen a J200 without the Jackson electronics system on a stock J/C. If someone else has, never mind. I tried wiring up a J200 passive that way once, and never again.

The J50BC can be used without a boost (sounds like EVH) but I've not seen the J200s. J100s I see without a boost.

The J200 singles are high impedance around 12K I think. One would guess that would mean muddy. The boost circuit presents a high impedance load to the pickups (i.e. not loading them down) and presents a low impedance output to drive thru the guitar cord to the amp.
