  • Anybody installed a big block on a non-recessed Floyd (floating)?

I'm looking at my guitars and the hole in the face seems pretty small in terms of getting a block through it...
Popular is not the same as good
Rare is not the same as valuable
Worth is what someone will pay, not what you want to get

I put one on my Model body and it doesn't have any pull up. Honestly think he designed it that way. I think you would have to shave a little to get any decent pull up on it.
    It's pronounced soops

See that's my issue with the big blocks. I can't see removing body mass to add the mass of a big block. You can't really get any pull up on the trem once you install the big block without modifying the body and to me that just seems like a bad trade off. Not to mention there's no point in having a Floyd if you can't do pull ups. Just my opinion though.
This is what I think of Gibson since 1993. I HATE BEING LEFT HANDED! I rock out to Baby metal because Wilkinsi said I can't listen to Rick Astley anymore.

Well, there is the point that Floyd's work very well at staying in tune regardless of whether the move both up and down or just down. I'm actually waiting to install a couple of trem stops to make my floating Floyd's drop only because I don't like dealing with keeping a floating Floyd balanced and I like to rest my hand on the bridge too.

Why not just get a regular style old school strat bridge and locking tuners then? I find that my strats which all have locking tuners stay in tune just as well if not better than the Floyd and they have no pull up whatsoever at all.

It has not been my experience that the setup you refer to work as well for me as an OFR. For me the OFR is better, even if it's drop only, because they require less maintenance and have more range.

BTW, I put a Big Block on the OFR that's going in my latest Charvel project but it's getting a refin so if the cavity has to be carved up to give decent range I don't care.

I have one on my ProMod. I'm not a heavy trem user, but it looks tight in there. Tone is awesome, which is what matters to me.

Ian, I did it a while back on my purple sparkle Soloist. Here's a link to the write up I did then

On mine I would only have to remove a minimal amount to get the pull back. The lip right by the trem route to be exact. I wont because it sounds amazing the way it is and I have several that can pull back so it's staying the way it is.
