  • Replacing covers on Jackson single coils?

    Hey folks,
I just got a neck and middle single coil off the bay. I am in the middle of building a super strat that is amber stained and pearl pickguard with gold hardware. The pickups(of course) are black. When I got the back of the pickups off. I noticed these things are SOCKED in there with wax. Has ANYBODY been successful in getting these covers off without damaging the p-up?
Much thanks for ANY helpful advice!

    Peace
    Jimmbo

There are many models of Jackson singles. Which ones do you have?

I know this is not much to go on...my ignorance...,but the pickups have a metal plate that is glued on to the pickup cover. After I carefully pryed the metal base away,I found that the pickup was held in the cover by wax.I know this is great for reducing feedback and other sorts of stuff. I hate to admit it,but this is really bugging me! I LOVE the sound of Jackson p-ups and REALLY wanted to use them in my strat build, but those black covers have gotta come off,if at all possible! Here is a link to the auction. UNFORTUNATELY,the description seems a LITTLE vague to me. Perhaps someone would be able to look and tell.http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...=STRK:MEWAX:IT

If it is indeed wax, you should be able to heat the pup slightly with a hair dryer, until you can pull the cover off. Otherwise I don't know.

I think Sunbane would be right. My middle single coil didn't have wax on it, came off no bother.

The covers from the J80c's in my model 5 were held on with thin 2 sided tape.

Oh, to the OP, I dunno what you plan on replacing the Jackson covers with, but they might not fit.
Not all single coil covers are the same size....

I was going to put some white ones on to kind of match the pearl white PG. I've a couple different types, I would hope that two of those would fit.

Thanks Sunbane! The dryer trick worked like a charm! The single coils are now sitting in the PG with their new white covers!

Thanks once again to you all for the help!
