  • How do I remove play in JT580 trem arm?

I have a 2000 PC-3 and a 2000 KS-2- both with brushed silver recessed JT-580 trems. There seems to be a small bit of play(the bar wiggles ever so slightly) as you depress the bar. I know how to adjust the nut on the underside and also, the threaded locking collar comes loose easily. This is on both guitars. Is this a common problem? For reference, I have an '85 Kramer with an OFR and an early '90's Charvel 475 DLX with a Schaller trem, and both of those are great. Any comments appreciated.

You can try some teflon tape on the threads and bar shaft or order a new one from stewmac.com

I have this on my DK2 yet if I use my DK2's JT-580 arm in my Soloist XL's JT-590 there is no play. Weird...

In my experience even the genuine Schaller replacement bars from stewmac eventually become loose with use. They don't come loose from the base plate but it seems the play starts somewhere in the collar or where the bar actually goes into the shaft.

That's another option also-just jammin' in different bars until one fits good

I'm becoming a fan of the old-school screw in bars. I recently bought one, and after you get used to it there is NOTHING else that has the perfect amount of tightness. I understand you can buy these again. Mine will just flutter away forever.

You can scuff it with sandpaper & put JB Weld around the shaft.
When it dries, sand until it fits tight again.

                      Seriously. I've done it.

If its tough, shreds, and screams, Its all good.
If it gets jacked, I'll get another one.

The JB Weld dries hard as a rock. I've used it to fill screwed up, reamed out tuner holes. Hard metalized epoxy.

A little wobble is annoying when you're fiddling around with the guitar, but once you start playing it shouldn't matter. It doesn't really hurt playing performance. I've had Floyds with and without bar wobble, and in the end it didn't really matter at all.
