  • Floyd Rose replacement for SOCAL

    Hello All...

I am new here. Just picked up my 1st Charvel last week. Got the Candy Green So-Cal....

    Love it.

Anyway, from what Ive read here the R3 Floyd is the one that I should be able to just dump into this guitar correct?

It would be this one in an R3 version right?

Thanks for your input and see you guys around on here... Now I have to stop myself from getting another one of these great guitars!

Schaller licensed more expensive than the OFR?

The Schallers are good, but get the OFR.

        R3?
Are you talking about the lock nut size?

As for the Floyd, get a German made Floyd to replace the Korean built trem.

There's no need to replace the locking nut. It will work perfectly fine with whatever trem you replce on there.

Has anyone been able to break the new Korean OFR through normal use? Does it last as long as the Schaller-made one?

Can't denounce it as crap simply because of where it was made. Sung Hi Lee ain't crap, and she's Korean

I thought the Korean Floyds were made with the same materials and to the same specs as the German ones. Theoretically there should be no difference. Can anyone comment?

The materials may be the same, but some suggest the tolerances are not as good.
The fine tuners on the Korean ones are supposedly not as smooth.

I couldn't really care less where the thing is made as long as the damn thing works like its supposed too and doesn't fall apart.

To me the "OFRs" on the new production model series are pretty darn good. I don't see a big reason to replace them. I did put a new Schaller arm from stewmac on mine and a big block. The rest of the components seem just fine.

I'd be curious to know if anyone replaced theirs with a made in Germany OFR ... did it make any real difference?
