That whole poplar/alder thing is very ironic. In Fender-land, poplar is a four-letter word and is synonymous with shady and deceptive corporate cost-shaving. But, in Jackson-land, it appears the opposite is true. A lot of the early San Dimas Jacksons are made of poplar and are very desirable. However, over time, most of their production models moved to alder (presumably because of cost shaving as well). I own one of those early poplar Jacksons, and while it is a great guitar, there is a bit of softness to the wood which results in frequent stripped screws. So, my point is, who the hell knows?!?

Depends. My '94 Dinky HX is poplar and is one of the lightest guitars I've ever owned. Alder and poplar are pretty similar in tone anyway.

Mahogany, and ask for a king kelly, it won't neck dive then.

IMO there's not much difference between poplar and alder, either with tone or weight. They are both somewhat soft.

I'd go with RDs suggestion of mahogany.

I prefer cedar, it smells nice. Very aromatic.

Since you're getting an EMG in it, the body wood won't matter, so yeah, get it in Pine.

You were also a tight end, but then after the team had their way with you, you became a wide receiver.
