  • I should buy this...but has anyone ever seen a Trace Elliot 3/12?

There is one at my local GC... very cool looking.. `16 ohms.. but has
3 12" speakers in a typical metal grilled, green logo'd Trace Elliot design.
Whats weird, is that from the 4 corners it slants INWARD about 10"
to the middle, with a triangle framework. Very cool looking and i would
think a different sound in that the speakers (3) are arranged at a 20 degree angle inward. Anyone ever see one of these? Late 80's?
I thought it was a Bass cab when i walked past it.. $199.00 used!
I may buy it, just for a conversation piece!

Rob I think that belongs to an early 90's bass amp bro. I remember trying that series @ my local store quite some time ago. They made either 3 X 12 or 4 X 10 top cabs over a 1 X 15 or 1 X 18 bottom cab..in dark green tolex. It could be that series. I thought the 3 speaker config was odd. I belive it was a 800 or 900 wat bi-amp system.

You usually don't see 12s in bass cabs, though. 10s and 15s, but I don't recall seeing many bass amps with 12s.

At least none that withstood the onslaught

Did it look like this? I believe Richie Sambora used to use these.

I dig it. If it works and sounds good to you, go for it.

One of the Mods at sevenstring.org has one of these and loves it. I would think $200 is a good price, and it is a guitar cab.

A friend of mine has three of the 3x12's and he loves them. $200 seems like a good price. The angle of the speakers has a great intersecting point about three feet from the center of the cab, great for mic'ing. If you get off the center point, the cab sounds completely different, not bad just different than the center point. BTW, he plays them through an older DR and a Trace Champ head.
For $200 I would get it just to have as an interesting piece that many may have not seen or heard about.

I forgot...we pulled one of the speakers and I noticed that it stated 5 or 5.3 ohms on the label (Celestion I believe). It never crossed my mind how you could get 16 ohms with three speakers
