• Audio clips of Pete's Twister poweramp

Ok, here's 4 mp3s of my new Twister poweramp, built by Pete (Oklastrat) and one of my Fender RocPro1000 head.
The cabinet is a Carvin VE212 loaded with Carvin's British speakers (200W cab).
Guitar used for all clips - JCF01 Rhoads with Duncan Distortion and Jazz pickups.
Mic used is a Shure SM-57 set just a hair off the grill and on the edge of the cone (the seam where the cone becomes the baffle).
These files are 3MB - 7MB. No post-production except to raise volume (currently experiencing a problem with my sound card where incoming signals are either too hot or too low).

All were recorded at jamming volume. Can't mic it at bedroom volume - too much mic noise.

Clip 4: ADA MP-1 with Digitech TSR-12 in the fx loop into Twister

Clip 5: Digitech GSP-21 Legend into Twister

For comparison, the other mp3's I've posted previously were MP1-TSR direct into my recorder, not a miked cabinet.
Major difference for the better, I'd say

Newc - sounds great! My favorite of the bunch are the MP-1 clips. I had an MP-1 for awhile, and it was a cool piece of gear, but it sounded/felt like a preamp to me. I know that sounds weird, but it just never felt 'connected' to the poweramp I was using (at the time, a mesa 50/50). Your clips with the Twister sound like a 'real' amp.

The Rocpro sounds more modern used normally, and has a warmer/classic tone with the Twister. I did notice you also had a brutal tone at times through the Twister also - it just sounds more percussive through the rocpro than the twister.

I copied em to my hard drive - can I use excerpts from em for my website?

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Need you ask? Of course!

On some of the ADA stuff (ADA+TSR, ADA clean) I think I was kinda overloading the mic preamp on the recorder, hence the bit of flubbiness in a couple of them, but the only flub I heard from the amp itself was at full-volume, most likely due to my running very high bass settings in the TSR and ADA (double the bass with both units going). It's not there at lower volumes. Since that's an EQ problem, I could play around with it and cut better ones if you want. I had to run the bassy EQ to make it sound more like a cabinet when running direct into the recorder.

And the Twister makes you play better too!!

I'm guessing the RocPro was the first thing recorded? Because your playing becomes much more fluid on the subsequent tracks.

Sounds super-cool. I was actually enjoying a lot of the sounds you were getting out of the GSP, but I don't have the discerning ear of the aficionados here

the amp sounds amazing but I also know that the cabinet you used is awesome!...

Pete... is there a rack-mount version of that little monster?..
