finger confusion

  • finger confusion

    when i play some fast stuff like yngwie or petrucci, i always end up getting my middle and ring finger mixed up. id like some help on how to "command" these fingers a little better. exersises will be great

    Play chromatic scales..

    Also, when you're learning a song that messes you up, play it in super slow motion. Like REALLY slow so that you have everything under control, i.e. how far your fingers are from the neck when you're not playing (you want them as close as possible), what finger you want to fret next, etc. Just take everything really slowly and your muscles will eventually just know how to react. Its like typing on a keyboard, you just know where to go after a while... If you rush you'll keep messing up and then you'll just pick up bad habits, like mixing up your middle finger and ring finger [img]graemlins/images/icons/tongue.gif[/img]

        do the basic chromatic exercise and then do one in this pattern 1324(1 index finger, 3 ring etc.)
        and go up and down doing that.
