  • Stripped Schaller Floyd on sl2!!

My threading stripped out on the Low E string on the base plate on my Schaller Floyd! I wish it was it was just screw, but it's the base plate that got stripped out! I'm not too Floyd savvy either, and I'm wondering if I shoud just put in a new Floyd? Suggestions??

You can always repair it with a helicoil kit.

    Pretty easy actualy.
Tricky part is finding one small enough.

Something I did that was real ghetto was that I found a screw that would fit into the intonation-screw hole, but it stuck out a bit underneath the base-plate. Then I took one of these that fit the screw http://www.klimapartner-berlin.de/im...150/mutter.jpg and simply tightened the screw. voila, ghetto solution.

But the floyd was black and the screw was chrome, so it look like crap.

Yep, it's the achilles heel of that trem. Weak metal baseplate without hardened inserts.

Wow I'm thinking of junking it to somebody and putting in a new Floyd! Will a Floyd original fit right in??

Is it a top mount or recessed?
If it's recessed, the string lock screws will hit the body.
If it's a top mount, a Floyd would work perfectly.

No it's recessed! Will I have to get another schaller floyd instead of an original??

IIRC SL2s came with a JT580, which means the shorter rear recess, which means you need a genuine Schaller-logoed trem, not the cheaper "looks like a Schaller but didn't cost $200".

                  www.stew-mac.com has them.

                    You have three choices.
Have the route extended for the Floyd screws
                    Have the Floyd screws shortend
                    Buy another Schaller

Don't go the ghetto route... so just step away from the tool box.

You just called the JT-6 design a ghetto solution
(It uses the same system, basically).

I had the same exact problem with a Schaller Floyd on a Hamer Californian. I ended up spending the money on a brand new trem. Even on the replacement unit, I've had to replace saddle inserts, which was also the case on another Cali and a Soloist Pro. The Schallers seem solid enough, but I've had numerous problems with them...and none with the "cheap" Jackson JT580LPs.
