  • Which blade pickups rock your socks?

Seeing the X2N thread kinda set me to thinking... Blade pickups looks the business, n that's partially why I love em.

But which one is best for you and whu? Ones that come to mind are

    Bill Lawrence L500s
    Dimarzio X2n
Dimarzio D-Sonic semi qualifies I guess
    SD Dimebucker
    Kent Armstrong Motherbucker (quad rails!)

    Opinions?

I use the Dimebucker, Duncan Iommi and Coolrails, and have used the L-500XL before, all with equally good results

I had the xl500 but the sound was way too thin. Much better results with X2n.

The hotrails in my Strat basically turned it into a metal machine. That and the lil '59 in the neck, pure heaviness. very nice complimentary setup.

+1 for the Hotrails. Maybe the best single-sized hum out there for getting a true heavy full-size hum tone. My take on the XL500 and the Dimebucker is that they sound best in warmer set-neck or neckthrough guitars, especially mahogany. They can be harsh & brittle in a bright guitar. The X2N is just an all-around badass pickup. Splits nicely, too.

I haven't tried any other rail pup but the BL's, the 500XLs. I've used them in a franken strat based on an Ibanez blazer body with a maple neck with ebony fretboard, a Les Paul custom and a SLATQH.

I agree 100%. I have a Hot Rails in my Strat and it sounds like a full blown Humbucker.

Hot rails is killer. Its basicaly the same as the Duncan Distortion (at least thats how it was originaly billed by Duncan) But for a strat or tele without any mods to the body or pick guard. The cool rails is nice too. JB Jr isnt a rail pup but ut sounds great especailly with a lil 59 in the neck and middle.
