  • Wild Card Refin (...again)

Well, the EVH paintjob I did a month or so ago wasn't really cutting it for me anymore. I just felt like a toolbag playing it, so I decided on a whim today to strip it down and start over. I picked up a can of Krylon candy red and a can of gloss clear. These pics are taken before I started to apply any clear, so at the end of this weekend once everything's had time to cure and I've knocked out a few rounds of wet sanding/spray clear/wet sanding/polishing, I'll have some finished pics up.

I'm planning on dropping in a reverse zebra Duncan Custom 5 with a push-pull coil tapping volume pot. I'm also going to drop an extra MXR knob I have sitting around onto the pot.

    Some progress pics:

And remember: at the end of each jam session, there will be grief counseling. Just ensure that you assume the proper Party Escort Submission Position or else we can't give you your weighted companion Charvel.

Man, I wish I had a place to paint shit.

Krylon... Acrylic lacquer? That should turn out well I think.

I wish I had somewhere other than the barracks to do it. I have it hanging on a coat hanger in my shower! It's a total pain in the ass cleaning the bathroom afterwards, but it's all good.

Yup, I'm using acrylic lacquer. I'm starting to get used to doing this and I'm thinking about painting up another body after this one. I'm thinking Seafoam Green San Dimas Style 2 with a white pickguard, chrome HW, creme pickups. We'll see.

I have considered shooting lacquer outside and then bringing it in to dry. When I was a kid I used to do it in the basement but it still stunk up the whole house... I'm also amazed that the furnace (which was 10 feet away) never caused an explosion.

The can I bought is the "low odor" lacquer from Krylon. I was skeptical, but it's actually not bad at all! It doesn't leave a scent after about an hour or so and after mopping the floor you'd never know I painted in the bathroom.

Not in cruelty, not in wrath, the reaper came today.

An angel visited this tan couch and took the Charvel away.

I got my son a cool Litho of the Cake for xmas last year - he'd get a kick out of that paint job.
