Anyone who wants to submit a new serial for "the database" please do so by posting another reply. [I will update this first post with new information.]

I know there are a few of us that maintain a spreadsheet / list / database of Jackson serial numbers. I don't know if any of you have a desire to publicize said serials, but does anyone want to share (privately or publically) their research? I am willing to share my data (which is about 120 serials which gives a pretty good picture for serial dating) with anyone that wants to share their data with me. Most of my data comes from my Jackson collection, Jacksons I have moved (I buy and sell guitars), a few friend's pawn shops and guitars I have worked on...and augmented by serials posted here.

Anyone who wants to speak to me privately about this matter feel free to private message me. Thank you.

A secondary matter, is there any desire in creating a publicly shared serial number database or anything that would make it easy for people to ID years. Even something like: 2004 starts around 9705400 for MIJs, 2005 starts around 9740300, 2006 starts around 9741200, etc. Just some additional FAQs that would assist people (and probably bring people into JCF from google and searches).

1992 Soloist XL: J200517 (It has a Charvel stamped JT-590. I found that kinda funny. The bridge is in fantastic shape for being so old.)

Do any of you have an approximate date for when the Soloist XL was made? I'm hoping it was made around my birthday because it would be sweet to have a guitar that is the same age as me.

The serial number list is not detailed enough to pull months out for specific years. I doubt we would ever be able to ID the month a neck-thru was built anyway, there is not any month / year data written on it. Compared to a bolt on where month / year data is written in the neck pocket. If you were born in 1992, then I would say that is close enough to say you two are the same age (:hbd:).

Thank you for the serial numbers :)

Purchased June of 2009? My serial list of 2007-2010 is really light on data points as of right now, but I think that serial number is closer to 2006/2007. I have few data points to confirm this, but I have DKMG from July 2007 with serial 9793768 (pulled neck data) and another JCF member has a DK2 serial 9790726 which was purchased December 2007 (no neck pull data). It's one of the ones that GC was blowing out this summer. It may have been sitting in one of their warehouses for a while. The guy at this GC said it had been there a couple of months. If I remember, I'll pull the neck next time I change strings. I do know that it is brand new. It had none of the typical damage from being molested in a GC. It was immaculate.

If you're is interested, I might be able to setup some form of online web-based database for Jackson/Charvel serials. I'd need to look into it to see how I can create something like that, but would be cool to somewhat automate it. For instance, you could go to a page and "register" the guitar. It could have a form that would ask for:

BRAND (Jackson or Charvel. This could be a dropdown)
MODEL (text box)
COLOR (text box)
SERIAL (text box)
PHOTO (an upload option to attach a photo of the guitar)

We could start with the most basic functionality and add more features to it later. I have a database server available as well as web space, and would be glad to create something like that for everyone to use.

On the flip side, for people who just want to search the database, we could set it up to where you could search by serial, model, color, etc. and get info on the Charvel/Jackson serials as we understand them to begin with.

Just some food for thought! I'm up for the challenge :D

Both MIJ Jacksons, the RR3 is probably 2008, but I'm not certain on the cutoff for 2009, do you happen to know when you purchased it or any other data? If you want to help me out, the next time you change the strings pull off the neck and post back what you have written in there (the date will be there on an RR3). The Stealth EX is a 1994 MIJ with the neat (i.e. non-normative) 7 digit 94xxxxx serial range (started with the Concept MIJs in 1994, but some Professional MIJs appear to have received the same serial scheme) instead of the normal 6 digit MIJ range from 1994.

That's fine. Catalog years are not a super accurate way of determining model years, as you're probably finding out.

IIRC there was a GC line from this era also that was MII.

And there were some models that were never in a Jackson catalog. I don't think the Kelly XLR was, and neither was my '94 Dinky HX. Though, the HX was featured in a Venneman's Music Emporium newspaper/catalog flyer from where I bought it.

Well, that is the point of this thread, so the OP can form a database. IMO THOUGH IT DOESN'T SEEM THAT USEFUL FOR YOU DUDES TO JUST WRITE THE SER # & MODEL. You really should be checking that neck pocket for that stamped date and reporting that here also.

Having said that,

According my (old) rough chart, your serial should be fairly recent, maybe 2007-8.

OK, I said WTH, and restrung the V, neck needed a good clean and oil session, and I bought a tremolo stabilizer also. The neck pocket on this guitar is TIGHT, worried i was gonna have a crack in the pocket or the finish, but its all good.
The neck had 7-1 stamped over 06-7-22 and had KE3 on it too, go figure.
The neck pocket had 7-1, KVX10, 2006-7-10.
This kinda stumped me as I had thought the KVX10 came with a LFR starting in '07.
Not a bad guitar for a factory parts production mutt ;)
Oh yeah, SN/9768789

Serial 604959
body stamp reads (very faded) 8-2 DXL
neck stamp reads DK STD
All black with black hardware, I presume a JT580 Bridge (I see no markings to tell me otherwise)
Neck is maple with rosewood fretboard and strange dark blue dots for markers (cant really see them on stage) and its 24 frets with allen wrenches on the back
Duncans S/S/H

Thats about all I can gather. Can you tell me what it is? I can't fiind a good match in the 96 catalog (I presume it's a 96 from other posts) I've had it for years, plays great with killer action but never bothered until now to find out.

Dinky standard? Wow, that threw me for a loop. I didn't realize the Duncans were an option back then, there is no pickguard on it and the truss

This is my firts post on this forum.
Just bought a MIJ Dinky rev. (I guess). Been trying to find as many info as possible with no luck.
Here we go: ser. no.#9625235
http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e121/ThunderStorm1973/Jackson.jpg

Jackson DR-X; only sold in Europe, NZ and AU. Body wood: Probably poplar. Year; some time around 1997-1998. The exact production date can be read on the neck heel.

It's either 10-07-2008 or 07-10-2008.

Thank you for the info.
On the next setup I'll check the neck heel.
Serial says '96' by the way. So, according to the information I read in this forum, it might be a 1996 production.

Well, according to the us standard date format the first two digits are the month.
So, it's Oct. 7th, 2008.

Wow, this thread took off!

There's a few important things that can help here:

First, that 1990 Fusion Pro is a 1989. I've owned a few 1990 bolt-ons (USA and Pro), and they all started with 0.
For a 6-number serial on a neckplate, the first number is the last number of the year it was made. 1989=9 (as the Fusion above), 0=1990, 1=1991, 2=1992, 3=1993, 4=1994, 5=1995, 6=1996.
In 1996, Jackson gave almost everything a "96" serial, meaning the first 2 numbers of the serials were always "96". Usually there were only 6 numbers total, so that was "96" for the changeover and 4 for the rest of the number (i.e. "961234"). 7-number serials were started in the late 90s, and indicate Japanese manufacture. Anything that has more than 7 numbers is NOT made in Japan nor the USA.

J stickers on the headstocks indicate Made In Japan, no matter how many numbers it has, and was stopped sometime in the mid-late 90s (unless of course they've started using these again?), and was usually used on models that had no neckplate (mostly JTX models).

Thanks for clearing that up... my past research pointed me to '89 as well

This guitar is fast... faster than the USA models down at the Guitar shop that I've played on :Headbang:

F.

Not for a bolt-on guitar. The 96xxxxx serials started in 1996, but continued on into the next century, before they rolled over to 97xxxxx. The post-1995 bolt-on serials are purely sequential and tell nothing of the production date. In fact, the only thing you can say about it, is that a 7-digit serial with a leading "9", is a guitar built in Japan.

This is correct. The date on the neck heels seem to follow the format "yyyy-mm-dd" (year, month, day).

I'm not sure what you need to know but I posted in this thread about a DK2 I recently purchased that looks a lot like that one---amberburst with satin hardware including satin knobs. Your Takeuchi trem probably has a slightly wider baseplate than the other JT580LP's so an OFR should be a direct fit although there will be irregular gaps in the route. Also, the Takeuchi block did not have the standard 17 mm spacing for the block-to-baseplate screws so any attempt to upgrade the block could be difficult. You should take the neck off next time you change strings because a lot of info should be printed in the neck heel and pocket.

Expect dates and model info in the neck pocket and on the neck heel. SN's are usually stamped on the neck plate but not always. You may not have an SN for your guitar. I had one out four with no serial.

Im new here so ill go ahead and give my input...Doing a database like that shouldnt be too.. too hard... Hell.. I have never done something like that on a website but have on a somewhat smaller scale in the past.. Got a computer science degree and did nothing with it:( Been awhile and my SQL is a bit rusty..MS or oracle database hehehhehe

Kool idea though.. Sorta see it in my head too.

1996 KE3 "Professional", no S/N (stupid stickers missing) but I lucked out as the features of this guitar were produced in this fashion for one year only. I know this doesnt help the cause any. Maybe I lucked out even more on it, but for it not being part of the sought after 91- 95 "Professional" line, it is hands down number 2 of all the Jacksons Ive owned concerning build and craftsmanship quality. Number 1 definitely goes to the SL2H I had for an ever too short a period of time.

Hi all, I am new to this forum and writing on behalf of my son, so I apologize if I sound a bit ignorant in advance. A couple of years ago, my son purchased a Jackson guitar at a pawn shop and I am trying to do some research to see if it indeed a genuine Jackson or a counterfeit. As best I can tell it is a Dinky JS style in Inferno red. It has 22 frets, a bolt on neck and dots on the fretboards. I am concerned because the serial number stamped on the neckplate doesn't seem to be similar to any of the numbers I have found on any of the sites I have visited and this seems to be the place to ask questions. The serial number of this guitar is 02050088 and the neckplate is completely blank except for the number. Can anyone help me to identify whether this is a genuine Jackson guitar and if so, when/where it was manufactured? Any help would be most appreciated.

Hi dude, yeah that sure sounds like one of the Indian made Jacksons, the 8 digit serial confirms it. That guitar was built in India around 2002. Probably a JS20 or JS30:

In dating by serial number, one of the things I noticed while going through the catalogs on line for Dinkys is that certain years had the scallop on the lower bout and the lower profile trem. Im learning as I consider buying a Jackson as I type this. Thanks for the great job on this post guys.

A little help from the experts if you could: I just purchased a Charvel 375 Deluxe and worked in a Jackson PS-2 Performer for free (beat up) in the deal so I could fix it up for my GF.
The serial is 1008425. Is this Korean or Japanese and about what year is it? Is there a big difference between the Korean and Japanese models quality wise. The neck seems real nice but until I fix her back up I'm not sure about the rest. Thanks for any help!

I will have pictures of all of my Jacksons/Charvels up soon. I only have 4 so don't get too excited. :)

OK, after we confirm, I guess. You mention 2 guitars and 1 ser #. Start thread(s) with pics for both. I believe 10xxxxx is in fact a Korean ser #, so that would be the Performer.

I just scored a DK2 with the Eerie Dess swirl cheap off craigslist. I'd like to know the year it was made. It has chrome hardware with Duncan Designed pups so I'm assuming it's somewhere around 2005.

Serial # is 9742607

EDIT: nevermind. 2005 is confirmed. It needs some cleanup so I just removed the neck. The neck is stamped 2005 04 06 DK2S. The body is stamped 2005 04 20 DK2.

Anyways, when I got it, the seller told me it was a 1983 Fusion Pro. I knew it wasn't an '83, but when I saw it, I also knew it wasn't a Fusion. It's a Soloist Pro, but I have no idea when it was made. The pic of the serial is misleading, the 1st digit after the J is a 0.

Sales receipt reads js32t Rhoads. I got it new in the middle of June at Sound House Music, a local music store in Pikeville, Kentucky. 1-877-437-4155. Ebay store name special 20. Has a Made In INDIA sticker on the back of the headstock, also has India handwriting on the neck heel and pocket. Heel reads 9A843 with a red X. I was kinda worried that this was some sort of factory defect series or 2nd grade guitar with the trouble I am having with it's fret buzz and weird serial #. LOL!

Body & neck are 2007, but I put her together so the plate might be off. Ron?

Hmmmm, now that I've noticed that J in the serial number for my JJ4, I'm worrying that it's not Japanese. Which actually shouldn't matter one little bit because I've had the guitar for years and it'S always been great.

I just know a bit about Jackson serial numbers from reading the forums. Seems your Kelly was made during the "Golden Years" of Japanese Jacksons.

I hear ya. I'm not questioning it. I'm assuming you're going by this
http://i1176.photobucket.com/albums/x325/dc131976/Screenshot2013-07-12at105514AM_zps4225b40a.png (http://s1176.photobucket.com/user/dc131976/media/Screenshot2013-07-12at105514AM_zps4225b40a.png.html)

I was just wondering why it shows as the xl and std being into production later than the xlr. Seems backwards.

Has anyone figured out why this guitar is dated 2005 with a serial (9848130) indicating 2009-ish? I'm referring to the Dinky on the previous page of this thread.

Yours is a 1990 as well as JDR94's from what I've gathered. 1990, rosewood board, reverse sharkfins....sounds like a XLR same as JDR94's.

no not like mine. axedude- yours doesnt have binding. no reverse headstock, most likely not MOP inlays. has to be a ke3. if you take the neck off it will say in the neck pocket
