  • What do you use to clean your ebony fretboards?

    1) lemon oil
    2) lighter fluid
    3) something else (please specify)

I wanna get my ebony board looking like there's no grain. It's been done before, but can't remember what was used. I'd also like to know what type of cloth used.

    Thanks.

I use lemon oil and terry cloth to clean, mineral oil and a cotton ball to shine it up.

Lemon oil, in fairness it's all I know and the only thing I've ever used.

I haven't had to worry much about the cleaning part yet. I wipe the guitar down good after each session. I use a cloth diaper (never touched a baby's south end so no jokes) on the strings and fretboard and micro fiber polishing cloth on the rest.

Once the fretboard is clean, I swear by Fret Doctor (THE bore oil in a bigger bottle)

I've used lemon oil,0000 steel wool,Dunlop conditioner, and GHS Gorgomyte cloth's.I think they all do a good job,but the steel wool and the Gorgomyte do a nice job polishing the frets at the same time.

If I get a used guitar, I use naptha and steel wool for the initial cleaning. After that its Ernie Ball Wonder Wipes. I used to use lemon oil, but the wipes seem to do better and they're really convenient.
I'm not afraid to bleed, but I won't do it for you.

One more thing about the naptha ...... its great for removing liquids that have soaked into the fretboard. Even piss. Yes, folks, it works on piss.

Ok, I'll bite...How is it that you know it works on piss!?! Since I'm asking this, anyone here try it to rid of feces? How bout that tricky semen stain?
